Chapter 21- Release
Fedor’s POV
It was a wild day, I barely had come to the reality of us being underwater and now the alarm flaring had me running to Chief’s workstation. Unlike before, Chief did not look as relaxed and was busy pressing buttons furiously on his keyboard. I wished I understood what all these was so I could offer some help but I could barely take care of myself. Thoughts about my inability to swim danced around my head, why did I imagine the worst in situations like this? This trip had been anything but relaxing, I had to tiptoe round Chief and now I might or might not die because another person made bad decisions. I made bad decisions, I was a bad decision. Now, I was spiraling and needed to get myself in control.
“Everyone sit!” Chief barked.
I knew for certain that this was a do-or-die situation but you have got to appreciate a man with authority, he had folded his shirt, and those veins that peeked through made my knees weak. I had to appreciate my ability to focus on the wrong thing, I must have been staring blatantly when Chief turned his focus to me and pushed me to a seat while he strapped me. Wait, why was I strapped? Something was wrong, we were on a ship, this was what it meant to be in a fog. My mind wasn’t built for stressful situations, I had always said this and whatever Chief had covered the ship with suddenly opened and I could see, he wasn’t wrong, we were underwater. Everywhere I looked, there was water, was this a submarine? No, Martha was a ship.
“What is happening?” Naim asked but did as he was told.
Castle looked as confused as I felt, “I thought we were safe and they wouldn’t see us.”
“I don’t think they did but they noticed an oddity and will strike soon. They must have a specialist with them, the trajectory is more than a coincidence, either that or one of you is being tracked which I highly doubt. Do you need to keep asking questions? Or do you want to live?” Chief roared. He was a sight to behold when he was down for business. “Strap in everyone!” Chief ordered, the men rushed and did as he said but they had more questions I could tell but they must have known that it was not the time. Underwater, it was dark and bright at the same time, I know that didn’t make sense but if you thought about it, it did unless it doesn’t. Fedor, relax, the glasses won’t break and you won’t die underwater with your body lost at sea. I repeated the words to myself.
“Ready Martha?” Chief was tensed, the most tensed I had seen him.
“For …” I had barely gotten the words out when the ship moved at full speed, if not for the strap, I was certain I would have had a concussion and died. The force was unbelievable, I closed my eyes to cushion the effects, the men were oddly quiet and I was curious to know the faces they were making. The world was silent except for the silent hum of what I assumed to be Martha’s engine. Chief had a lot of secrets, why did that make me want to know him better? I wanted to solve the mystery that was him and I hated that, how long was this going to take? I wanted to throw up, I thought about other memories to distract myself. Of course, the kiss came up, why won’t it? It was the single most dominant event to ever happen to me except for when my parents died, oh my brother’s death and the death of my innocence. How was I supposed to know that people had sex on the streets like vagabonds, it happened on one of those days that I could not come up with the rent and was out on my ass. I found refuge in one of those homeless shelters except it was more of a front for prostitution and not the fancy kind.
