Chapter 45: Listening

*Fedor’s POV*

“Fix it” The smaller man in the mask ordered in a heavy accent like I could do anything about it, I stared at him without expression even though it dawned on me that I might not survive the day.

I sighed when the hair pulling got more aggressive, “I don’t know.”

They spoke in a language I could not place and the next thing I knew was a knife at my throat, what was with them and violence! I closed my eyes ready to accept my fate when Chief’s face flashed right before my eyes instead of my life and I raised my hands, as it turned out, I wanted to live! Take that Ms. Cecil but focus Fedor, I said to myself. “What do you want?”

Bahkman had punched an unconscious Ode who made no reactions to being beaten; it was going to hurt when he woke up, the smaller man directed my attention back to him, “Motherboard, where?”

“Whose mother?” I frowned because I was genuinely confused but he must have thought I was mocking him because I was punched, it hurt like a force came through my gut, seriously why can’t people just talk about their issues?! It was my face I blamed; I tend to look condescending when I was scared to death, why won’t these men wake up? My hair was pulled again and before he could hit me again I did the only right thing under these circumstances, something I should have done from the beginning and avoided all this attention. I fainted, I was a good actress when my life was at stake, my hope was that they didn’t kill me while I played unconscious because that would be anti-climactic but then again, one could argue that I had lived a good life. No, it was too short, there were lots of things I wanted to do, I felt them shake my body to wake me, the idiot that had punched me earlier slapped the shit out of me and right then I wanted to be a homicidal maniac, they gave up after a while when they saw that I wasn’t waking up. I was dragged by the legs somewhere else while they ransacked the ship, I could hear the frustration seep out of the one I had to assume was their engineer.

He must have known there was more to the ship but couldn’t figure it out while the others weren’t all that bothered about the turn of events. The Bakhman seemed very content to have Ode in his grasp, this was a very different danger from the Makints, these men were dangerous and I could tell that they had no respect for human lives if the way I was treated was anything to write about, I withheld the urge to massage my face, I was angry, scared and most of all, I was anxious. I tried not to think about the worse case scenario like I usually did and did the opposite of that like Chief suggested, we were going to be fine and I was going to dig my nails through Joseph’s eyes. I don’t know how much time passed before I heard them wake. I tensed and maintained my feign of unconscious damsel in distress, I could really use a prince at the moment, I heard Chief roar my name passionately before I heard a thud. I couldn’t risk opening my eyes so I listened as hard as possible.

“Do you know the kind of man you have in your crew?” I assumed it was Bahkman speaking to Chief, Joseph was awake as well, I knew it because Chief’s next words drove shivers up my spine.

He ignored Bahkman, “I will make you regret existing. I promise.”

I heard grunts and punches thrown around, I could not resist anymore and opened my eyes and lthem with Chiefs’. He was bleeding at the side of his eyes and his hair glistened with sweat, he signaled for me to stay down but there was something with me, and doing the opposite of what people wanted me to do, no one was watching me so I slowly crawled my way out of the room and made it out before slamming head first into the guy that punched and slapped me earlier. I did not hesitate as I kicked in between his legs, his smile as he caught me froze and turned into a grimace, I kicked again for effect and slammed his head against the door with as much force as I could summon. The ruckus brought unexpected spectators but I had locked them from outside before running to Chief’s room, I had to assume he had some sort of ammunition. I was in a hurry as I checked everywhere anyone could hide a weapon, Chief was a planner, he must have had something hidden somewhere, soon his door was attacked, it meant that they had succeeded in breaking the other door.
