Chapter 81- Attractive
*Fedor’s POV*
I had come to terms with the fact that Chief was hot stuff to other people that weren’t me and that was fine but this was not fine. It was one thing for her to resemble a princess and an actress at the same time but it was another for her to elicit any emotion that was not apathy or disgust from Chief, he was stunned speechless as he stared at her before he recollected himself and just before I do something stupid like fall or faint, I covered part of my face with my hand as I took all of this in, the name Susan had never come up in any conversation I had with Chief so hopefully their entanglement was as light as Rwan’s hair. Looking at Rwan, she did not like this Susan, I think she might even like me better with the look of death she had on as she watched like me.
“What is happening?” Chief asked.
“Susan’s parents sent a proposal for you and I think it would be perfect for you.” Jarum explained and I was like Ooooh.
Chief was battling with his patience but decided to ignore the fact that his father found the perfect bride for him, “I thought you were married.”
“It did not last, we were separated in six months.” Susan answered, “I never should have married him in the first place especially with the way I feel about you. I know this is late but I can give you the freedom that you need, I was too naïve to understand at first that a man like you could not be tamed, sharing you with the sea was too much but I was young and now I know better. I have no inclination to change you, I do not have any responsibilities and I can bear your sons and daughters. I know that this is not my place but I thought you would not have minded a marriage of convenience since you had no intention of getting married in the first place. I did not know that you were involved with another lady, or one that you would choose over your so called freedom, the entire reason you pushed me away!” Susan had said the last part more emotional than she would have let on because she had been severely elegant until then. I had the urge to whistle but I doubted it would have been appreciated, man; Chief was a heart breaker that’s for sure.
“Susan,” Chief started and I wanted him to stop mentioning her name, we all know what she was called by now; could he just get on with it, “I cannot marry you, I do not care about what you can do for me; I am fine. I am sorry about your marriage but I told you he was a tool and you called me a jealous fool.”
I could get the picture now, I did not want to think this way but I doubted Jawan would have supported his son getting married to a divorcee especially with his stuck up suit and cane, based on the society’s culture, her value would have dropped and if there was anything I knew about the man with the cane, it was that he judged everything based on value. I also suspected that it was the same reason her parents would have agreed to her getting married to Chief, especially with the new movement, I could be wrong but I am usually right about these things.
“Song! Think carefully.” Jawan warned.
Chief groaned before relaxing like he had come to a decision, “I am grateful to you for your support all through the years but I am done pretending that I could ever repay you so I am going to be the rebel you have claimed that I am for years. Jawan, I have no intention of compromising on Fedor, I will not be subject to your whims. Using Susan was a low blow even for you, how you thought she would have any sort of pull on me simply because of our ties shows how much you do not know me and I am done trying to prove that I was worth your attention.
“Boy!” Jawan’s voice echoed in the room, “You were nothing, and would have become nothing if not for and you plan on throwing it all away for her; a girl without roots, culture and background. Look at her, glaring at me without any respect, this is the kind of woman you want to spend the rest of your life with. I should not be surprised with all of the choices you have made as a boy till date, your mother would have been ashamed of the man you have become.”
The silence in the room that followed that statement was loud, I saw Chief’s hands shaking and even if I had not noticed I was glaring, I was not sorry and heavens forbid that I would let a man like him make Chief feel small about himself and I hissed snarkily, since he thought me disrespectful when I hadn’t done anything, he was about to get a whole new definition. “Usually, I respect people in power even when they don’t have the attitude to show for it but you somehow manage to beat even the bare minimum standards of a human being.” I said a slow, calm manner so that not a word is missed, sure I might have crossed boundaries but he brought this upon himself.
“Fedor,” Rwan came forward but was pulled back by her father.
I shrugged, “So what you gave him a place to sleep and food to eat, does that mean he has to do everything that you wish? If you would look beyond those ridiculously tiny specs of yours, you would see the amazing man that he is, the genius he is and more importantly the good natured man that he is. You are right, I have no manners, family, culture or even a sense of self preservation but I love him, for everything that he is and he would be, he might not be your doll to toy with but he is mine, he is for himself and like he said, I am grateful that you kept him safe but I assure you as someone who grew up in the streets, he would have survived and thrived even without your generous hand of help.” I faintly ignored the fact that I was not necessarily alone and I was still getting used to the idea that I had a stalker/provider/protector all this while.
“Fedor…” Chief held my hand.
“I know, I am sorry for being disrespectful, actually that is a lie, no one; no one not even him can tell you such words, if his mother would be ashamed of the man that he is, then she does not deserve to be his mother.” I said the words that I had been itching to say since Song told me his mother pretty much left him here under this narcissistic cruel old man to see the world, if you cannot take care of your children then do not have them.
He squeezed my hand, I turned to Susan, “I do not care whatever princess school you went to, you are beautiful, elegant and a total babe and you can have any man but not this one, so no to you, no to Jarum and ultimately no to Rwan.”
Jarum glowered at me but no matter how intimidated I felt, I swallowed, “Again, super grateful for everything that you have done for him but I do not know where that godlike entitlement is coming from but Noooooo to these.” I pointed at everyone.
“Girrl!”
“What is with the boy and girl thing, I am Fedor and he is Song. If you have so much problem remembering our names, it is nothing to be ashamed of and once again, grateful! But you are such a jerk, no consideration, you just exist like a lord. Man! Easy!!!”
“You uncultured …”
“I know, I am uncultured!” I groaned aloud. “I get it, but if the cultured ones look like you, act like you and think like you; Man! Being uncultured is beginning to sound like a compliment. Your daughter needs mental help, did you know that? I am starting to see that you might be the source of her issues.”
Rwan glared at me willing me to shut up but I have started now and I do not think I was going to stop, the tap was running and flowing seamlessly, I continued, “Please, I have watched you with him, I doubt he pays you any attention and that is why you are probably obsessed with Chief. Man, pay some attention to her, that way she would not have to seek validation from other people and since we are on the subject, what is your deal? The size of your ego must be this high, the décor is meant to what? Stun people into submission, I nearly fell trying to climb into the chair. Last thing, would it kill you to smile from time to time? You look like a grumpy headmaster, have you never known real joy? Or wait; is it because you could not have Song’s mother you are mean to him on purpose to get back at the man that won her hand? If that’s it then it is absolutely messed up as hell. Everyone here needs therapy, I know someone!” I had learned few things from Ms. Cecil.
“Get out of my house!” Jarum thundered.
“I would have if I could figure out a way to get off this chair without breaking my neck!” I screamed back, man thought that he was the only one that could scream, I had been afraid of watching Song’s reaction before but I caught the small grin as he lifted me off the chair and we made our way out of the house. Once we were in the car, Song started laughing and could not stop and he teared up a little at some point. Anytime he tried to say something, he ended up laughing and that eased me a bit because I was terrified that he would have been angry that I stood up to Jarum since he did not do it. I had assumed it was out of respect he had his way with him but I might have been wrong.
“I can’t tell if you are laughing at him or with me.” I said finally as he kissed my hand over and over again. “So you are pleased then.”
“Pleased, I would pay half of my fortune to watch that again, I do not think anyone has talked to him that way before; to see Jarum speechless and flustered. It was the most satisfying thing ever, did you see his face when you insulted his interior and lack of smile, if looks could kill; you would be dead by now. It is crazy! So crazy! I love you so much and I love that extra psychological analysis about my dead parents in a love triangle with him, it was an extra flavour.”
“You aren’t mad?” I asked.
“Noooo, never.”
I chuckled nervously, “Why do you let him get away with so much?”
“I owe him. That puts a damper on things.”
“Haven’t you paid enough?”
“Do you think you can ever pay Queen enough?”
I sighed, “No…”
“Exactly and she was hidden for most of your life, Jarum never let me forget it and until she wanted more from you; Queen never let you know; that is a big difference Fedor, a huge one.”
“Are you saying that I become her daughter?”
“No, I am saying that you have the freedom to choose for yourself what you want and that is fine. Thank you for standing up for me, I love you so much for that, you are everything and more.”
I shrugged, finally relaxing, “He is intimidating though.”
“That he is…”
We drove in silence for a minute before I asked, “So… Susan? I thought you never dated.”
