Chapter 62: Battles

*Chief Song POV*

Fedor laughed and changed the topic, “Alright. How are the men?”

“Surviving. The weather is getting to the best of us.”

“Maybe my day wasn’t so bad after all, it was a roller coaster but I am not stuck in a place, when do you think you’ll be back home?”

I smiled at that, “Three months.” She went silent and I had to check if she was still there, “Fedor?”

“W…Seriously?! Three months!!!” She screamed out loud and went to series of cussing out before settling and asked again, “Are you sure?”

“I could try earlier but it would definitely take more than two months,” I did not want to disappoint her so it was better to give her a date it wouldn’t exceed.

She sighed resignedly, “I better get used to this.”

“It’ll pass before you know it.”

“You don’t believe that, It has barely been two days and I want to murder someone. I am not okay, I am so not okay, I don’t want to be away from you. This is bullshit.” She hummed something I could not hear before she talked in a way calmer tone, “I am fine and you will be as well.” She concluded and I knew she was distracted through the rest of the call. I was able to sleep after hearing her voice and by the time, I was awake the weather was better, we could make progress on our trip.

I went outside to be accosted by Carlos, he was either not a morning person or he was angry with me, “What is wrong with the both of you? Take a look at yourself, both of you look like you were jumped by armed men and why did you not come for treatment? Do you think yourself above getting hurt?”

“It was late and he needed more help. I am okay, just bruises; they’ll heal eventually, we were just blowing off steam.” I explained.

He wasn’t satisfied but there was nothing more or less he could do, “There are other ways to do that without killing each other. I am not even a trained medical professional, we don’t have one lying around so please treat your body kindly. I’ll admit that you seem to be in a better mood, so at least it was not a waste.”

“We might have to pass through Nige rivers,” Kora said nervously.

“Isn’t that the longer and unsafe route?” Carlos asked.

It was and it was a dangerous nation, even Kolanphur could not compare to the corruption and classism that goes on over there, even on the sea there was order here but not in Nige, it was unsafe and unwise to go through there under any circumstances. “You can’t be serious.”

“The storm that passed through last night caused serious wreckage and the Ridites are in mourning, there was a fire as well that cost lots of lives. More children than adults since it started in the school, because of both incidents, they are hurt and angry. There is a ban on outside ships on their coast at the moment and it could last for months.” Naim commented with a discolored face.

I almost felt bad for doing that to him but that faded easily as the dull ache in my legs reminded me that he had done almost as much damage to me, “Nige is too risky.”

“Maybe not.” Castle said. “There was a coup last year and the rebellion has been winning. It could be safer.”

“We cannot be sure.” I was not ready to risk the crew’s lives on a maybe, it was better to return back to Kolanphur with the news even though I knew the president would not take it lightly. He gave orders easily and was good as long as you kept your bargain but with any disappointments, he could get very bitter and petty. It was like I was in the middle of two bad roads.
