Wooyoung's POV:
"Jung Wooyoung, where are you!" My mom screamed through the phone. It took me an hour, but I finally looked at all my messages.
"The hospital." I mumbled. She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.
"Where are his parents? I'm sure they've contacted them by now."
"I don't know." I looked back at San from outside the room with the door closed. A doctor came in to talk to him so I felt like now was a good time to return my 20 missed calls. "I'm sure they'll let him leave on his own." The doctor then left the room and gave me a friendly nod. "Can you pick us up though?"
"Of course, sweetheart. I was already on my way."
I smiled. "Thank you. I'll see you soon then. I love you."
"I love you too, honey."
I walked back into the room after the call and noticed the angered expression on his face.
"What's going on?" I asked, too afraid to hold his hand. "Are you not allowed to leave?"
"No, I can." He nodded. "I'm just annoyed this happened in the first place. Never in four seasons have I gotten hurt. There's three games left, Wooyoung, three. My senior year. I don't know if they'll let me play again." He sighed, then shook his head downward.
"Give it a week, you'll be back on the field." I reassured, patting his lap. "They need you." He took my hand and interlaced our fingers. "Sannie." I whispered.
"Hmm?" He looked up, almost looking like a lost puppy.
"Why didn't your parents come to the hospital?" He let go of my hand and looked away from me. I immediately felt bad for asking because it was clear I hit a soft spot. "I'm sorry." I whispered, feeling awkward.
"For what?"
"I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."
"You didn't." He shook his head. "It's just a weird topic."
"Do you not...have parents?"
He shrugged. "They're divorced so I don't see my mom or my sister. We don't speak. Apparently my mom only wanted custody of her. According to my dad, she said I looked too much like him so she wasn't really trying to win me in court." He smiled, but his eyes were filled with sadness. "So I live with my dad...who is a piece of shit." He grabbed my hand again and I squeezed it tight.
"Abusive alcoholic?"
"Yeah." He nodded slowly, seeming weirded out that I knew.
"Mine was too." I smiled. "Except he died before my parents could even get a divorce." My smile dropped at the thought of old memories. "He loved me and my family though. He just...struggled." I shrugged. "I had an older brother, his name was Jimin. He," I smiled, feeling tears burn my eyes, but I wouldn't dare let them fall so I wiped them away, "he got into a car accident. Died on impact. That broke my entire family. My dad started drinking as a way to cope. But when he was drunk, he was an entirely different person. He tried to stop, but it's not easy for addicts - especially depressed ones. But he would just say the most fucked up things you could possibly imagine. One night, him and my mom got into a huge fight over it. So he left. Took his keys and walked right out. Next thing you know, a police officer knocked on our door telling us he crashed into a pole due to drunk driving." I was glad I kept my composure. I don't tell the story often, but I felt like he should know. "Sorry for trauma dumping." I smiled, wiping away any stray tears. He rested his hand on my cheek and rubbed it gently with his thumb. I leaned into it, biting my lip because of the overwhelming affection. "Your turn." I smiled.
