Wooyoung's POV:
It was the very last football game of the season. San seemed to be all cleared, but I doubt they'll put him on the field much. He insisted he played tonight though; and saying no to the captain isn't easy. Apparently he had convinced his dad to come watch the game. I'm not really sure how he did it, but it most likely came with a price.
"He's looking." I couldn't mask my disappointment.
"I know." My mom couldn't either.
Every chance San got, he turned around and scanned the crowd for his dad.
"He kept trying to convince me he's coming."
"What makes him so sure?"
"Because this is the first time he's ever said yes when he's asked every single game for four years."
It was almost halftime so I thought I'd go check on him. I made my way down the bleachers and to the fence where we usually meet.
"Hey." San still sounded hopeful so I put on a happy face.
"Hey, Sannie." He took off his helmet and looked concerned.
"You okay? You don't sound okay." Like I said, I couldn't mask my disappointment.
"I'm just a little tired." I lied. "I'm glad they let you play though." I smiled.
"Not a lot, but it's something."
"I told you they need their best player." He smiled at my simple compliment. To him, it means the world, but I'm just stating a fact. I did my research through Changbin and he actually does have the best statistics on the team. I mean, he is the captain for a reason. "You gonna go back in before halftime?"
"We'll see."
"Okay." I kissed his cheek, saying my farewell for now.
"Wooyoung!" He called out once I was a couple feet away. I turned around, confused. "I love you!"
I just flicked my wrist towards him and started to blush uncontrollably. "Shut up!" He smiled knowing how flustered he just made me so I blew a kiss before going back up to the bleachers.
As I was walking up, Yeosang tugged on my arm. He was standing with Yunho and Jongho a few rows ahead.
"I already looked, he's not here." He sounded just as disappointed.
"Do you know what San even said to him that made him think he was coming?"
"He just told him what tonight was and that he'd get a lot of praise and attention for not having a loser as a son." He sighed.
"And he thought that was enough?"
"Apparently." Yeosang shook his head and rolled his eyes.
"This is gonna make me cry." I groaned. "I'll see you." I patted his arm and walked to my family.
San had just run on the field. I couldn't help but feel my stress rise drastically every single time he gets put in. I'm scared he'll get hurt again. He hasn't fully recovered yet either, but he apparently seemed pretty convincing to the coaches. According to him, not flinching at a blowing whistle was the selling point. So he essentially tricked them. But I'd never stop him from doing what he loves.
"Yeosang said he looked everywhere and his dad isn't here."
"I thought that was obvious." Hyunjin stated, keeping his eyes on the field. With the way San was playing, you'd have no idea he's been benched for the last couple games. He's trying to make up for lost time.
"I hate his dad so much." I shook my head and clenched my jaw. This was a different type of rage inside my chest. It's one thing to deal with drama between teenagers, but to treat your only son this way makes me sick. I would kill to have my dad back despite everything that happened in our family. All San does is try to have a relationship with him, but it'll never work. For once, I'm the pessimist. Maybe that's because I see things from an outside perspective. "I'd never tell him that though, that's too disrespectful."
"You? Afraid of being disrespectful?"
"This is different, you know that."
The buzzer rang, ending the first half of the game. And of course, his first reaction was to look through the sea of people for his dad.
"At least they're winning." Hyunjin tried to stay positive, but that was a near impossible task. "San would've scored a touchdown if he had a few seconds left."
"I know." But it didn't matter. This entire night won't matter whether they win or lose once San realizes.
