"Shit! Shit! Shit!" Kai was tearing his house apart trying to find his keys. He told himself that one more round of cookie run wasn't going to make him late for work. It did. He frantically dug through all of the pockets in his jackets to find them. They weren't there. Desperate, he called his boyfriend for help. "Hey? Hi! Uh huh, yeah, love you too. Listen, do you know where my keys are?"
His boyfriend suggested a bunch of places but his keys weren't in any of them. Kai then turned around to look into his bedroom. His phone dropped onto the hardwood floor. Someone he didn't know was standing in the hallway, jingling his keys in the air. That man sweetly asked "looking for these?"
The phone on the ground said "Kai? Baby what was that? Hello?"
Kai was too in shock to do anything. It took him a second to snap out of his frozen state. He yelled "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU AND HOW DID YOU GET IN HERE?!"
"I live here. What a weird question." The man laughed like it was the funniest joke in the world. He leaned sideways against the frame of the door then smirked at Kai. "I'm your boyfriend silly!" The phone wouldn't stop talking. The man strolled over then stomped on it. "Ugh. So needy. Anyways, how don't you remember me? Did you get drunk again?"
Kai stared at the shattered screen. It kept glitching in and out before it finally gave up and shut down.
The guy snapped his fingers in front of Kai's eyes to get his attention. "Baby this stopped being funny about five minutes ago. It's me! Beomgyu? Your boyfriend of the past year?"
"I have no idea who you are!"
Beomgyu groaned. "I hoped I wouldn't have to do this but you didn't exactly leave me a choice. I'm sorry."
Kai backed up towards the front door. It was a heavy metal one. He pushed it open with all of his might but the door didn't budge. He started kicking it. Slapping it. Screaming against it but nothing.
Beomgyu started to read the sequence. "Cherry. Frost. Five. Icing. Pancake. Seven-"
Kai stopped in place. His mind was trying to stay sane as the sequence got louder. His hands clasped over his ears but it wasn't enough to drown the voice out.
The closer Beomgyu stepped, the louder he became. His boots clanged against the surface of the floor. He stood over Kai and just watched him fall apart. "-Cherry. Frost. Five. Icing. Pancake. Seven. Daffodil. Cherry-"
"STOP! PLEASE STOP!" Kai was desperately fighting it.
"FIVE. ICING. PANCAKE. SEVEN. DAFFODIL. CHERRY. FROST-"
Kai dropped his hands. When he opened his eyes, he smiled at Beomgyu like he held the world. "Hey baby!"
Beomgyu knelt down then quickly kissed him. "Hey!" He handed him the broken phone. "Who were you calling earlier?"
"Um..." Kai looked at it puzzled. He didn't remember calling anyone. Hell, he didn't even remember how it broke. The shattered screen came to life. It was a name he only faintly recognized but wasn't sure. "I think it's someone you're related to? Maybe a brother or a cousin?"
"Why do you say that baby?"
"Because their last name is the same as yours."
Beomgyu peered through the one way window. He hoped to god his squad caught that. If they didn't, a punishment would be in order. He dropped the death stare then looked back at Kai with a loving expression. "Do you remember their first?"
No matter how hard Kai tried to remember, he couldn't. His brain started pounding from exertion. "No... I'm sorry."
"It's okay. You're doing great! Where were you trying to go? I'll take you there!"
