Lea just had a blank look on her face. There is no way that out of all the names in the bowl, Finnick's was chosen. "This cannot be happening," She whispered to herself. "Please tell me that this is not real," She said as she turned to Emma, one of her best friends.
"I am afraid, it is true, Lea," Emma said with a soft voice. They then both saw Finnick walking towards the stage. "I have to go see him," Lea said while she tried to go after Finnick.
"Lea, you can't, they will just stop you and bring you back here, going after him will only make things worse for Finnick," Emma said.
Emma was right, going after Finnick would only make things worse for both of them. At this point, she could only hope that he would win these games because she couldn't live without her best friend. Lea now regretted not telling Finnick sooner about her feelings. She was too scared to tell him before and now she might not have a chance to tell him at all.
She then looked over to the stage. Finnick immediately changed his behavior and had a mischievous smile on his face.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you, our tributes from District 4 for the 65th annual Hunger Games" Ella enthusiastically shouted, while clapping her hands. Finnick then immediately went over to Elena's side and shook her hand.
"Would you look at that, I didn't even have to ask them to shake hands," Ella laughed. Then two peacekeepers came onto the stage, ushering both tributes off. As soon as the tributes were away, everybody made their way back to their homes.
Lea then felt a hand on her shoulder, she turned around and saw Finnick's dad.
"We are going to see him, do you want to come with us? I'm sure he wants to see you," Finnick's dad said.
"Yes, of course, I want to see him," Lea said as she followed Finnick's parents.
"I can't believe this, I mean the chances were so small. Our names were only in there 3 times," Lea cried out
"Unfortunately honey, that is the world we live in, there is nothing we can do about it, besides hope that he will come home to us." Finnick's mom said. Lea saw the tears coming out of Finnick's mom's eyes. She was trying her best not to cry in front of Lea but she realized that there was a big change and that they would never see Finnick again. He was only 14 years old and he would have to compete against 18-year-olds and Districts 1 and 2 would for sure have volunteers, as they do every year and how could Finnick compete against people who have trained their whole life for the Hunger Games?
"We are the family of Finnick Odair," His father said to the peacekeeper.
"Lea, we cannot go in all together so wait out here but honey please don't cry in front of him, he needs all our support right now and if you cry you will only make him feel bad. Finnick's mom said.
After his parents left the room, Lea got 5 minutes to see him.
The second Lea sees Finnick, he runs at him and hugs him. He immediately hugs her back. The two of them don't say anything for the first minute, they just embrace each other as if it were the last time that they would ever be able to.
After a minute, Finnick pulled back.
"I will come back to you, I promise," Finnick said.
"You cannot make promises that you might not be able to keep," Lea sighed.
"I am quite good with a trident, If I can get my hands on one of those, I say I stand a pretty good chance. I'm the best of the academy for a reason you know," Finnick said.
"Now is really not the time to get cocky," Lea said while rolling her eyes.
"You are right, I'm sorry," Finnick said.
