Chapter 8

Lea's Pov

No, this can't be happening, her last reaping and she is picked, she hears her name, but doesn't move, it's like she is stuck to the ground. It's not that she was afraid to go into the games, it's just that if she even survived, she didn't want the life that Finnick was living. 

"Lea, you have to go, don't show them your fear, act strong. You know they use this footage to determine how much of a threat you are going to be," Emma said. 

Her best friend was right, she had to move and she had to seem confident. Lea stepped out of the crowd and made her way to the stage, escorted by peacekeepers. Lea smiled at Ella and stood beside her. "And now for the boys", Ella said while walking over the the bowl on the other side. "The male tribute for District 4 is Alexander Mave" 

Lea was shaking as she saw a little boy come out of the stands, he was only 12 or 13 years old. She already knew that someone like that didn't stand a chance and she had to put her emotions aside. Suddenly she heard a voice say "I volunteer". "Oh how exciting," Ella said enthusiastically, "A volunteer, what is your name, young man?" She asked as he reached the stage. "Louis Mave", the boy said. "Oh, can I assume that that young boy was your brother?" Ella asked

"Yes he is, I cannot let my brother die," Louis said. "Well that is very noble of you," Ella said

"Very well, our tributes from District 4, Lea Miller and Louis Mave," She says while clapping her hands. 

Lea was brought to a room where she waited for her family to say their goodbyes. Her brother was the first one to come into the room. 

"Sis, you have to promise me, you are going to come home. Someone has to win this and it can be you. I mean, I have never seen anybody as good with knives as you are." Kai said

"Kai, you know I'm not scared about the games, I'm scared about what could happen afterward," Lea admitted. 

"I know but technically he is our grandfather, so if he has somewhat of a heart, he won't do that to his granddaughter," Kai said. "He doesn't know that Kai, and I can tell him 'cause I can't risk exposing Grandma, If he knows she is still alive, he might come look for her and I am not putting her in danger," Lea said. 

"Still Lea, just do whatever you can to survive, we will deal with what happens after the games later. I got to go because they only give us 5 minutes but I love you, sis." 

"I love you too Kai," Lea said as Kai left the room and her parents and grandma came in. 

"Honey, I don't even know what to say, I just cannot believe that this is happening, please promise me that you will fight." Her mom said while crying. "Sweetheart, you know you are capable of doing this, you have been training for this for the past 8 years, no one is as capable of doing this as you are, I believe in you." Her dad said. 

"Honey, I know you can take one token of your district with you in the arena, please take this bracelet with you, I have had it since I was young and I want you to have it," Lucy Gray said. 

"Thanks, Grandma, I love you," Lea said

"Time is up." one of the peacekeepers said

"We love you, please come home." The three of them said simultaneously while being escorted out of the room. 

She just wanted to see Finnick, but she had to wait until she was on the train. The mentors were already on the train.

Finnick's POV

Meanwhile on the train

"It's all my fault, Tyler. I was too selfish, I should have just listened to him," Finnick panicked.
