Chapter 88

Meanwhile, Finnick looking for Katniss. 

Finnick was walking around the hospital wing, looking for where Katniss might be. He couldn't help but have the biggest smile on his face. He still couldn't believe that just 2 minutes ago, he had held Lea in his arms. Now, nothing could ever break them apart. They were finally going to get the life that they had been dreaming of for years. 

While walking, he was wondering what Lea meant by Peeta being brainwashed. He hoped for Katniss that he was still himself and feared what would happen when they were alone together, so he had to find her as soon as possible. 

He then saw Haymitch standing against the wall. "Ah, Finnick, how is Lea doing?" Haymitch asked as soon as he saw Finnick approach him. 

"She is good, she is still a little weak so she will have to rest the next couple of days," Finnick explained with a very wide smile on his face. 

"I'm very glad to hear that and I'm very happy for the two of you that you are reunited," Haymitch said as he gave Finnick a pat on the back. 

"Thank Haymitch, I couldn't be happier myself," Finnick smiled at him. 

"Why aren't you with her right now?" Haymitch asked

"Well, her parents and grandmother came into the hospital wing, and I wanted to give them some time together and also Lea told me something about Peeta, so I came to see Katniss, do you happen to know, where she is?" Finnick asked Haymitch. 

"Oh, she just went in there to see Peeta. What did Lea tell you?" Haymitch asked nervously while pointing toward the room across the hall. 

"Did she go in already?" Finnick urged. 

"Yeah, she just went in a minute ago. Why, what is wrong?" Haymitch asked with a confused look on his face. 

"Get her out of there, she cannot be in alone," Finnick panicked. 

"Finnick, you have to be more clear. Why can't she be in alone? What did Lea tell you?" Haymitch said, raising his eyebrows, looking closely at Katniss who was in the room with Peeta. 

"She told me that they brainwashed Peeta, that he was saying all kinds of weird stuff that was not even true. She said that she feared that Peeta might try to do something to Katniss if they were alone and-" Finnick said, but before he could finish his sentence, they both saw Peeta jumping off of his bed, putting his hands around Katniss' throat, choking her. He then slammed her violently against the wall, breaking the glass behind them, and then he slammed her on the table with all the medical equipment. Katniss tried to fight back, grabbing his arm to get him off her, but Peeta was too strong; the grip he had on her throat was too hard. They then fell to the ground, Peeta getting on top of Katniss, his hands still firm around Katniss's throat. 

Haymitch immediately ran into the room, Finnick and Boggs following right behind him. 

"PEETA!" Haymitch shouted, his voice raw with panic as he rushed towards them. 

"PEETA! GET OFF HER! GET OFF HER!" He screams as he puts his arms around Peeta, trying to get him off of Katniss. Finnick helped him, grabbing Peeta's shoulders with all his strength, but Peeta pushed back, shoving Haymitch to the table behind them and Finnick to the floor. Peeta was wild and unhinged, no one could stop him. 

Peeta then again put his hands around Katniss's throat, slamming her to the floor. Katniss again tried to grab his arms to try to get him off her, but he was too strong. He continued choking her, Katniss's face turning purple, her eyes wide with shock and pain. Her legs kicking weakly beneath him. 

Boggs stormed in next, running towards them before slamming a metal plate on his head, which made Peeta stumble backwards, off of Katniss. 

Katniss was still lying on the floor, gasping for air.
