Chapter 72

District 13

"Hey Finnick, can we please talk for a second?" Katniss asked as she knocked on Finnick's room in the hospital. 

"If you are here to insult me a bit more then please just leave, I am really not in the mood for that," Finnick sighed. 

"No, No, I just came over to say that I'm really sorry, I shouldn't have acted the way I did. I really can't imagine how you are feeling right now," Katniss admitted as she walked into Finnick's room. 

"Thanks, that means a lot," Finnick said with a soft smile on his face. 

"Have you been able to get some sleep?" Katniss asked. 

"No, not really, I keep having nightmares about her death, it's like I'm reliving it every time," Finnick admitted. 

"I understand, I got a lot of nightmares too after my games, but you know what helped me?" Katniss asked. 

"What?" Finnick asked. 

"Having something that can comfort you, calm you down. Maybe if you have something of Lea's, will make you feel closer to her," Katniss said. 

"I don't have anything of her," Finnick sighed. "I have nothing that reminds me of her, and there is a big chance that everything at home is destroyed. I heard they are bombing the Districts," 

"And what if, you could go to District four? Just for a little while, so you can grab some of her stuff before it is all destroyed," Katniss said. 

"There is no way, they are going to allow that. I am not even allowed to leave the hospital," Finnick said. 

"You know, they asked me to be the Mockingjay," Katniss said. 

"The Mockingjay? What does that mean?" Finnick asked in confusion. 

"They want me to be the sign of the rebellion, to make propaganda clips to try and unite the District against the Capitol," Katniss explained. 

"Are you going to do that?" Finnick asked. 

"I told them no but then they said that they would take me to District Twelve, to show me what the Capitol has done to it and then I told them that I would only consider being to Mockingjay on one condition," Katniss said. 

"And what is that?" Finnick asked. 

"I told them I would consider it if we could also stop by District 4 so that my friend Finnick could stop by his home," Katniss smiled at him and Finnick smiled back. 

"That is, if you still want to be my friend, after all, I did," Katniss said. 

"Thank you Katniss, that really means a lot," Finnick smiled. "I would love it if we could start over as friends,"

The next day, Katniss and Finnick went to the districts. It was only the two of them, together with some of the District 13 guards. They arrived in District 12 in less than an hour and Katniss walked out of the hovercraft to look at the state of everything. She went on her own, and Finnick offered to go with her but she wanted to go alone. 

After an hour, she returned, but she wasn't alone. She was holding a cat. 

"What do you have with you?" Finnick confusedly asked. 

"It's my sister's cat, Buttercup, I saw her at our house and I just couldn't leave her there," Katniss said. 

"I don't know whether Coin will be so happy about that," Finnick chuckled.
