Three days later
"I must say, talking with Peeta these past days has really been great. I think I helped him a lot," Lea said.
"Yes, Haymitch said he is improving a lot already, but it's still gonna take a while," Finnick replied.
"I know, I know, but at least we are making progress, right?" Lea said, giving Finnick a soft smile.
"Speaking about progress, how are you feeling? Ready to get out of here?" Finnick asked, a grin on his face.
"Oh god, so ready. I can't wait for the doctor to give me the green light to get out of here. I want to see everybody again," Lea said, sitting up straighter in her bed.
"How are the sleeping arrangements by the way? Are the rooms shared?" Lea asked.
"Well, some of the rooms are shared, yes, but some couples got private rooms," Finnick explained.
"Who are you sharing a room with?" Lea asked, narrowing her eyes slightly.
"Well... rooming's been a bit complicated from the start," Finnick began, rubbing the back of his neck. "When I first got here, I stayed in the hospital for a while. Then, once I was out, Tyler offered me a spot in his room with him and Annie. But when they got engaged, I didn't want to be the third wheel."
"Makes sense," Lea said, waiting for him to continue.
"Then Kai offered me a spot in his room. Since he's one of the commanders, he has a private one. It worked out, until he and Cashmere started getting close. At first, she'd just spend the night now and then, but after a few weeks, they were in a full relationship, and she basically moved in." Finnick glanced at Lea, testing her expression. "So we figured it'd make more sense if I moved into Cashmere's old room, and she officially moved in with Kai."
Before he could go on, Lea cut him off.
"We?" she asked, eyebrows raised. "And who exactly was sharing a room with Cashmere?"
Finnick's face softened, knowing what was coming. "Okay, now baby, before I tell you. Can we just agree to keep an open mind here?"
Lea folded her arms. "Who is it?" she asked, voice sharp with a hint of annoyance.
"Katniss," Finnick said, his voice gentle, trying not to anger her.
Lea blinked, her expression shifting slightly. "Katniss? You were rooming with Katniss?"
"Baby, please don't be angry. You know Katniss and I are just friends," Finnick said, trying to calm her.
"No wonder, you got 'So close' during your time here in District 13," Lea scoffed.
"Baby, it isn't like that, and you know it. You know I could never even look at another Woman," Finnick argued.
"How about Her? She never tried anything on you?" Lea asked.
"You're seriously asking me that?" Finnick replied, eyebrows raised in disbelief. "Katniss was grieving. She barely spoke to anyone. She didn't want comfort, she just wanted space. And even if she had tried something, which she didn't, I would've stopped her right then and there."
"You couldn't stand each other before the games, and suddenly you share a room and you are besties?" Lea asked, raising her voice.
Finnick exhaled slowly, trying to keep his cool. "Lea, please. It's not like we had much of a choice. Housing is tight here, and Cashmere needed a place with Kai. Katniss and I just ended up sharing."
"Oh, how convenient," Lea muttered, folding her arms. "Just a happy accident, right?"
"Lea, please, I didn't plan any of this," Finnick pleaded, his voice filled with regret.
