Daryl continued to rumage through his pouch before he pulled out my bag. Until now I'd forgotten about it. Then I remembered. When we were moving our camp back over by the house I'd put it in there. I didn't get a chance to take it out before what happened with Shane and Randall.
I watched as he unzipped the bag and pulled out the small box which held my mother's amulet. He then placed my bag onto the ground before opening the box. "You should wear it." He told me.
"Daryl, I can't." I shook.
"You can. You're your own person. Don't let what happened with Shane or Sophia pull you down." He took the amulet out of the box.
For a moment I just stood there. I looked between Daryl and the amulet that was now in his hand. He was right. This was the first step to me moving on. I turned around and moved my hair out of the way so Daryl could place the amulet around my neck. He did the clasp and adjusted it so that it wouldn't fly off over my head. I then turned back around and saw that Daryl had a slight smirk on his face. He was right. Again. It did make me feel better.
I smiled back at him and wrapped my arms around his neck. He then placed his hands around my waist and our lips met half way. I have to admit I never thought I'd be happy again in this world but here I am with no one to interrupt us. No one to separate us. No one to tell us that we can't. I then pulled away after another second or two and pulled us both into a hug.
After we'd finished, Daryl closed the pouch on his bike and I pulled my bag onto my back. There was nothing in it now apart from my mum and dad's wedding photo. I'm just glad I hadn't lost it, and I had Daryl to thank for that.
"Thank you." I smiled as Daryl took my hand in his.
"What for?" He asked.
I shook my head a little and smiled. "Just being there for me." We both then turned and looked at each other as I realised how soppy I sounded but I meant it.
We stayed holding hands as we walked over to the others, where I tucked the amulet under my shirt. I then glanced around and noticed that Hershal had seen me do so. A smile appeared on his face when he saw the amulet and I smiled back. It makes me happy that I can put a smile on his face after lying to him. I know he regrets everything that happened with my dad all those years ago but at least we're making up for lost time.
Together Daryl and I sat down on our own in the corner and I noticed Briana smiling at me. She'd moved to sit next to Beth. They seem to have a lot in common and she clearly cares for her, especially with what happened. In fact, we've all got a lot closer, apart from Lori and I. We don't always agree but we have to keep going. This was going to be the longest night of many.
I lay my head on Daryl's shoulder and he moved his arm so it was around me. I could feel my eyes getting heavy. My lack of sleep not helping. Then again looking around at everyone else, they were also looking pretty tired and before too long, the next thing I knew was falling to sleep.
I woke up the next morning and looked around. From what I could see only Tdog and I were awake. Then I remembered Rick saying something about us not having access to the cars and if were going to be surviving out here then we're gonna need them. I'm not sure how far we'd get on foot in the cold.
I carefully moved Daryl's arm from around my shoulder and picked up my bag. I then made my way over to Tdog making sure I didn't accidentally wake anyone else up.
"I'm going on a run. What are we low on?" I whispered.
Tdog looked at me and sighed. "You should wait for everyone to wake up." He replied. "You can't go alone."
