Rick looked towards me and then back to the men stood before us. "How long have you been locked in that cafeteria?" He asked.
The leader looked at me then readjusted the gun that was pointed at Tdog. "Going on like 10 months."
"A riot broke out." The larger inmate added. "Never seen anything like it."
"Attica on speed, man." The moustached man nodded. I couldnt help but wonder what they are all in here for. Whatever it was it meant they were obivious to what the world is now.
"Ever heard about dudes going cannibal, dying and coming back to life." The smaller inmate stepped forward. He spoke as if they were crazy and what was going on outside wasn't real. Either way, we had to tell them. Whether they believed us or not.
"One guard looked out for us, locked us in the cafeteria. Told us to sit tight, threw me his piece, said he'd be right back." The leader moved his hand with the gun in so we could see.
The other innocent looking inmate huffed. "Yeah, and that was two hundred and ninety two days ago."
"Ninty four according to my calcula-" The moustached man started speaking.
"Shut up, man!" The leader snapped back at him. The mustached man then backed away, drawing into himself.
"We were thinking that the army or the national guard should be showing up any day now." The larger man spoke again.
I looked at the men. They honestly didn't have a clue what was going on outside these prison walls. "There is no army." I mumbled.
"What do you mean?" The quieter one questioned.
"There's no government, no hospitals, no police. It's all gone. I repeated and looked towards Rick.
"For real?" The moustached one questioned again.
I rolled my eyes and looked back at the prisoners with hatred. "No, I'm making it up. Of course I'm serious." I snapped.
"What about my mum. My dad. My little sister." The quiet one called from the back of the rest. He looked like he didn't seem to speak out much or he didn't want to. "You got a cell phone or something that we can call our families?" He spoke again.
"You just don't get it, do you? No phones. No computers. Nothing." I yelled. I think Rick had had enough as he pulled me back and stepped in front of me.
"Lily, calm down." He whispered. I started taking deep breaths and continued to listen to the conversation, placing my gun back into my belt and moving Hershal's over to the rest of the weapons.
"As far as we can see, at least half the population's been wiped out. Probably more." Rick created a long and awkward silence in the room.
All six of the inmates all stood in shock after hearing that their families could be dead. Untuil the leader lowered his gun and refused to believe it. "Ain't no way."
"See for yourself." I huffed at their stubbornness. Is it so hard to listen to someone telling you that the world has ended. Then again, I didn't want to believe it when it first happened. Daryl, Rick and Tdog all looked at me as I sat down at one of the tables and raised my hands innocently.
"Girls got a mouth." The quiet one spoke again raising his eyebrow. Maybe he wasn't so quiet as I first thought.
Daryl's head shot back towards the prisoner. "I've told you guys once. Leave her." He snapped. At least he was showing his more protective side. Even if it was with some loud mouth prisoners.
"Come on."Rick started to lead them outside to be closely followed by Tdog.
"Daryl." I called over as he was just about to follow. He turned to look at me. "I can handle myself. I don't need you fighting my battles for me." As I finished, Daryl shot me a dirty look, then followed on behind. I didn't want to say anything in front of the prisoners but I meant it. I can handle a few stuck up ass holes. It's nothing I've not done before.
