I was woken up, at what I assumed was the next morning, by Daryl. I hadn't even realised I'd fallen asleep after everything that'd happened the night before. All I remember is the argument and then the nightmares that followed.
"You missed lunch. Bought you a little something." He whispered, taking his hand off of my shoulder so I could sit up. I'd missed lunch?
"Thank you." I took the plate, rubbing my eyes after I'd set it down on the bed between us. I was still trying to work out how long I'd been asleep if it was some what passed twelve.
"Must've needed your sleep. You were out when I came in last night. Rick's on watch. He wanted to see if you were alrght." He told me, but I couldn't help but notice the worry in this voice.
"Gotta be." I replied and it was at that moment I worked out how long I'd actually been asleep for and I couldn't help but smile. Daryl seemed to notice as he bumped his shoulder with mine and a glimpse of a smile also appeared on his face. It didn't last long though as the memories of last night came flooding back.
"Is everyone pissed at me?" I asked.
Daryl shook his head. "No. Give it a bit of time before Briana calms down."
"That's the point. With how she is now, she'll be like this for days. She won't listen to anyone." I sighed.
"Sound like Merle." Daryl snorted.
"Maybe theyre a good match then." I turned away. I didn't want Daryl to see the uncertainty on my face. I wanted to think that somewhere deep inside himself, Merle was a good man, but after everything that's happened, he's making that hard for me to see.
Daryl shook his head, but smiled as I turned back to face him. "You know your dad wanted to know how you were."
"Sounds like him." I finally picked up the sandwich and took a small bite. "I'll be fine, but just know that he's not gonna stop pestering you until he knows for sure." I smiled as the look of annoyance crossed over Daryl. I knew how uncomfortable situations like these were for him. I'd seen it before.
"Why don't ya come down. Show him yourself and join everyome." He stood up from the bed and offered a hand to me.
I shook my head and took another bite. "You go. I'm gonna stay here. I don't really feel like seeing anyone today." I sighed as I put the half eaten sandwich back onto the plate and put the plate onto the table. I then lay back down and turned to face the wall. "I'm just gonna get some more rest. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine."
For a moment, Daryl didn't move, but then I listened to the sound of his footsteps as they got quieter and quieter as he walked away. He knew I wasn't fine just as I knew I wasn't. I just didn't want to have to cause any more problems within the group. Instead, I did just like I said I was going to do. I closed my eyes and went back to sleep.
I woke up the next moring and Daryl was still asleep beside me. I'd spent a whole day in bed, trying to figure out what it was I was trying to do and decided that I wasn't going to waste anoter day away. I was going to do something productive to get my mind off of everything. It wasn't like I could just lie around and hope this all goes away knowing it's my fault. If I did I'd be giving up and giving Briana the satisfaction of seeing me crumble. I'd let that happen already and I wasn't going to do it agin.
Shortly after I'd got out of bed I heard Daryl wake up. "She's up." He joked.
"Very funny." I laughed as I placed both my gun and knife into my belt.
"You good?"
"Yeah." I smiled. If one thing was certain, it was that I felt a lot better than I did. "It's not like I can mope around all day, is it?"
