It's been thirty days without an accident and just over two months since mine and Daryl's fight. Since then, the two of us have hardly spoken, which Tyler is pretty pleased with himself about, but word spread fast about him stealing and what he had planned to do so everyone's watching their backs where he's concerned.
As for Daryl and I, we spent the first couple of days avoiding each other completely, but as people started to take note, the two of us decided that it would be best, when were around other people, to act as if nothing's happened and so far it seems to be working. The last thing we wanted was for people to become uncomfortable around us.
As for everyone else, Briana is the only other person who knows about mine and Daryl's situation as she found me sitting out in the courtyard crying after our fight. Since then she's offered me the empty bunk in her cell and tried to talk to Daryl. I don't know if it's working, but what I do know is that Daryl and I are at least having a conversation every now and again.
These past two months have changed us. They've changed us all and we're now pulling our weight more than ever to continue to build the community.
Since the Governor last attacked, we've cleared out most of the cell and shower blocks, rebuilt the fences, built up some defences, started our gardens, assigned job roles and now we even have a pig pen and some horses which Rick, Glenn and Daryl all caught out in the woods with Hershal's help.
Overall, with all the new people we're bringing in, everyone's grown a lot closer. Especially Briana, Beth, Carol, Maggie and I. We've become really close in the way we know we can turn to wach other just as if the world was still normal. The biggest shock so far was when Beth told us about her relationship with Zach. I don't think any of us expected it and since then I've noticed both Maggie and Hershal keeping a close eye on her. It makes me feel as if everything beyond the fences isn't there and we're all just one big disfunctional family, growing by the second.
"Lily. What do you think?" Someone asked suddenly, snapping me from my thoughts.
"Sorry. What did you say?" I replied as I looked up and around the room. It was just another council meeting and so far I'd been paying no attention what so ever.
Along with the nausea, I'd been finding it hard to concentrate lately and I'd told Briana this morning that I was planning on sitting this meeting out. She of course didn't listen to me and dragged me along anyway.
"We were talking about Rick not having his gun when he goes outside the fences. "Hershal replied. A look of disappointment on his face as he realised I hadn't been listening. "What do you think?"
"Well I think it's stupid. We don't know who's out there." I replied.
Ever since Rick stepped down as leader, he's been focusing mostly on his farm work and in the process, he's taken both his and Carl's gun away. Inside the fences, I didn't see a problem with Rick not having his gun, but the second he wasn't, he needed to take it. We all want him to be safe and having only a knife or machete when he's out there wasn't safe.
At that, Hershal then went around the room asking everyone for their opinions. As he did, I made eye contact with Daryl across the table and he nodded subtlety towards me. I then nodded back before I pulled my attention back to the room. By the sound of it, everyone else had agreed with what I'd said so Hershal stood up and volunteered himself to go and talk to Rick. None of us argued as, now a days, Hershal seems to be the only one, other than Carl, who's able to get through to Rick. We've all tried but come up short.
Once he'd gone, we all then began to stand up and exit the room, but as I went to get up from my chair, another wave of nausea came over me. This one was stronger than any of the others and shook me off balance so my butt ended up back on the chair.
