As we all stood behind the car, we watched the guards on the wall walk back and forth, holding their guns at the ready. We had to time this perfectly. We either had to wait for the change of guard or just shoot our way through. Both of them coming with their own risks. Risks we were willing to take.
All of a sudden, someone pushed passed me, knocking me into the truck behind us. It wasn't until I looked closer that I saw it was Michonne. She just ran off into the darkness, leaving us all stood next to the car.
"Hey...Hey...Damn it..." Rick called after her but she clearly wasn't listening. "Alright, we need to downsize." He then turned back to us and placed his weapon on the ground. I just kept my eyes on the wall. Thinking back to that moment where I'd jumped over it to escape.
"Ain't no way we're gonna check in all them buildings, not with all the guards there." Daryl spoke up, glancing back at the wall.
Before anyone else could say anything there was a sudden snap coming from behind us. We immediately turned and pointed our weapons to see it was only Michonne. She looked at us for a moment before she rolled her eyes and pulled her finger to her mouth before pointing in the direction she wanted us to follow her.
We didn't argue. We just followed on behind her as she made her way around the outside of the buildings before she stopped next to a door. It was half open with wooden boards covering the top half of the doorway. I thought it was pretty stupid to have an opening like this but I didn't question it. I just followed them all inside.
"This is where you were held?" Rick questioned Michonne as he stepped inside behind me.
She shook her head. "I was questioned."
"Any idea where else they could be?" Rick asked again.
As he spoke, I made my way over to the window and Daryl wasn't to far behind. I moved the curtain to reveal the street I walked on months ago. Still lit up with torches going down the centre. The flickering of candle light in the windows opposite. If the circumstances were different and I didn't know what I did, this place could easily be mistaken for somewhere safe. I knew more than anyone, it wasn't.
"I thought you said there was a curfew?" I questioned as a couple of people walked passed the window in the street. Rick came over and looked through the gap in the door. Anger building in his eyes as he saw them.
"The street is packed during the day. Those are stragglers." She replied.
Rick then turned and looked at us all. "If anyone comes in here, we're sitting ducks. We gotta move."
"They could be in his apartment." Michonne suggested. I shuddered from the memory of the fish tanks. If they were held up there, god help them.
"Yeah. What if they ain't?" Daryl questioned. He then moved away from the window I was looking out of and walked more into the centre.
"Then we'll look somewhere else." I spoke calmly.
Rick then also walked away from the door, joining Daryl and leaving me still hovering on my own by the window. "You said you could help us." He spat and both he, Oscar and Daryl circled around Michonne.
"I'm doing what I can." She spat back.
"Then where in the hell are they?" Oscar argued.
Everyone then went quiet as Daryl, Rick and Oscar made their way over to the back of the building to talk. As they did I turned back to the window to now see there was a man standing outside. "Psst." I called back as I moved from the window and turned to face the others. Just as I did there was a knock at the door. "Hide." I mouthed.
