The journey back to the prison seemed to take longer than it did for us to get to Woodbury. I don't know why, but it felt as if the roads were a lot longer than they were on the way out and I wasn't sure whether that was because of the adrenaline we had before or whether we were so caught up in killing the Governor we just didn't notice. Either way, it was a long drive.
Daryl and I were up front with Rick and Michonne following on behind. Behind them was the school bus, filled with the Woodbury civilians. Tyreese being the one behind the wheel. At the time, I had offered to drive, but Rick said that he trusted both Tyreese and Sasha and I trusted Rick so I didn't question it. All that was going through my mind was that we were going to have a lot to do to ensure everyone was safe.
That thought stayed with me throughout the whole journey. I just kept going over the possibilities of what could go wrong if these people didn't want to cooperate and where they would stay. There wasn't enough room in our cell block, which meant we'd have to go and clear out another one, putting us all at risk. On top of everything, we'd have to find more supplies. There was barely enough to feed us, let alone these new arrivals.
I took a deep breath and pushed my thoughts to the back of my mind as Daryl finally pulled into the prison and up through the field. Glenn and Maggie then opened the gate for us to pull into the courtyard. Their expressions becoming questionable as they saw the school bus pulling in behind us. Wed have a lot of explaining to do, but for now, we just parked our vehicles.
Daryl then kicked the stand down to his bike and I climbed off, handing him his crossbow as he then did the same. The two of us making our way down to Michonne and Rick as the rest of our group started to file out of the cell block. Each with their own confused expression as Tyreese, Sasha and Karen all began helping get the residents and their belongings off of the bus. With the help of Hershal, Tyreese then began leading the residents inside.
As he did, I turned to the car and began getting our bags out of the back. That was until Carol came over and gently lay her hand on my forearm. "Where's Andrea?" She asked. Her voice thick with worry.
I looked up at her and shook my head as the image of Andrea laying in that room flashed through my mind. "She wanted us to keep these people safe." I sighed, trying to hold back what little control I had over my tears. Carol on the other hand nodded and turned away, covering her mouth with her hand as the tears began to fall.
As she did, I turned my focus back to getting ourselves organised and handed both Rick and Daryl a pack each, taking my own before I shut the boot. I for one had to keep my focus. These people still needed a place to stay and having them all here, wasn't going to be easy. It's gonna take a lot of getting used to, on both sides. The cells, for one, weren't luxury apartments these people had come to know.
I waited by the door, with Daryl amd Rick, as the last couple of Woodbury residents headed inside. One caught my eye in particular. They were pushing everyone out of the way and being quite rude to those around him. I didn't let it get to me and chose to ignore him, for now, as the three of us followed them inside. All I know is that I'd be keeping an eye on him to make sure he wasn't going to cause us any problems.
Once inside, I placed my bag onto the table with the others and turned to face Rick. "We have a few extra cells in C so Tyreese and Sasha can stay with us." He started to say as some of the others came over to join us. I didn't disagree with him. If Rick trusted Tyreese and Sasha, then they were good people. "As for the others, we'll clear out block D and they can all stay in there."
"Sounds like a plan." Michonne nodded.
It was at that moment, Briana came hobbling out of the cell block, using Jace for support. Although her leg was bandaged up, she was still in pain and I could see it on her face, not that the others did, because she did well not to show it.
