I woke up the next morning and turned to look out the window. Smoke was coming from the other side of the building. I looked down to Daryls bed to find him gone.
I pulled my knife from my belt and jumped down from the bed going towards the smoke. I walked through the building until the flames became visible through the window on the other side of the corridor.
A tear came to my eye as I saw Daryl burning the body of the walker and the child. I looked at the fire and walked outside where I hugged Daryl as tight as I could. "Thank you." I sobbed.
Daryl held me as I couldn't control my tears his hsad resting on top of mine. We walked back inside and started to pack my bag with supplies. Daryl went back out to search for any supplies whilst I collected our belongings from the room.
I opened my bag to reveal my photo album that I'd forgotten I'd gone back for in the prison. I touched the tattered leather of the cover and put our supplies on top of it. "That car was heading down town. I say we get up in one of the tall ones. Give ourselves a view. See what we see." Daryl walked back into the room.
"Stay close to the buildings and keep quiet. Sooner or later were gonna be drawing them." I acknowledged.
We walked out of the building and onto the main street where there was a tank and litter covered roads. Daryl started to jog up the roads and I followed slowly behind. We approached a departmemt store where Daryl then stopped and the sound and smell of walkers hit me.
"Alright. We can get up there. There's a bridge." He told me.
He reached into my bag and pulled out a lighter and a couple of old files that he then lit and threw out into the road. The walkers strolled over to it giving us chance to run to the store. We ran through the car park and into the main store.
I followed Daryl up the stairs to the bridge where there were walkers in sleeping bags and a tent set up on it. I took out my knife and killed the first walker going passed them all.
"Somedays I don't know what the hell to think." Daryl looked up at me as he approached the tents. He picked up his arrow and we made our way past the walkers.
I opened the next door to find it chained from the inside. I took of my bag and pushed it through for me to slide in with then Daryl behind me. He handed me his crossbow and slipped through. "Good thing we skipped breakfast." He joked.
I giggled slightly as he walked passed me and down the corridor to the next room. I looked out of the window and saw the depressing mark the world had made on this city. The burnt buildings and roads. "How'd we get here?" I sighed.
Daryl shrugged his shoulders and looked out of the window. "You still haven't asked me what happened. After I got out with Tyreese and the girls, met up with Carol."
"Yeah. I know what happened. They ain't here." Daryl looked at me.
"It was worse than that." I sighed again.
"The reason I said we need to start over, it's 'cause we gotta. The way it was." Daryl told me then lent in closer to the window.
I looked at him and to where he was looking. "You see something?"
"I don't know. Hand me your rifle." Daryl placed down his crossbow. I took my rifle of and handed it to him where he aimed it at the window and looked down the scope. "Right there." He pointed and handed me the rifle back.
I looked down the scope to where he was pointing and saw a white van with the same marks on the back as the car we were following had. "It's been there a while. Definitely one of them."
