Alexis's POV

I sit on Scott's bed, reading through my book as he sits on the end, threading the laces on his lacrosse stick. Once he's sure the net is secure and loose enough, he tosses the stick onto the mattress before walking to the bathroom door, where he has a pull up bar mounted on the lintel.

After doing a series of chin-ups, he walks into the bathroom where he brushes his teeth and walks back towards the bed. "Wanna watch a movie?" He asks me and I nod before a noise suddenly rings outside making us freeze. We both share a look before he quickly slips on a shirt and grabs two hoodies, gently throwing one to me. He grabs our moms baseball bat and we slowly make our way downstairs and out of the house.

We glance around, looking for anything unusual when a figure suddenly falls off the roof, hanging by their feet make me and Scott scream in fright. Scott goes to hit the person before we realise it's our best friend, Stiles, who is also screaming at us. "Stiles, what the hell are you doing?!" We yell at him and Stiles looks at us in exasperation. "Neither of you were answering your phones! Why do you have a bat?" He asks Scott, who lowers the bat.

"I thought you were a predator!" He exclaims making Stiles squint at him. "A pre- what?" He scoffs. "Look, I know it's late, but you two gotta hear this. I saw my dad leave twenty minutes ago. Dispatch called, they're bringing in every officer from the Beacon department, and even state police." He informs us and we furrow our eyebrows at him. "For what?" We ask in unison and Stiles smiles.

"Two joggers found a body in the woods." He admits as he gets down. "What, a dead body?" Scott asks as Stiles stands up and gives my brother a deadpan look. "No, a body of water." He says sarcastically making my lips tilt up. "Yes, dumbass, a dead body!" He climbs over the railing to the porch, pecking my cheek as he smiles at me.

"You mean, like, murdered?" Scott questions and Stiles shrugs lightly. "Nobody knows yet. Probably in her twenties." He suggests and Scott frowns. "Hold on, if they found the body, then what are they looking for?" He asks and Stiles grow a grin of excitement. "That's the best part...they only found half. We're going."

The three of us pull up to the preserve in Stiles' beloved blue Jeep, illuminating the sign warning people against entry after dark. "We're seriously doing this?" Scott asks as we climb out of the Jeep. "You're the one always bitching that nothing ever happens in this town." Stiles retorts before patting Scott's shoulder and being the first to walk into the woods.

"I was trying to get some rest before tomorrows practice tomorrow." Scott informs as we follow behind Stiles. "Right, 'cause sitting on a bench is such gruelling effort." I say sarcastically. "No, because I'm playing this year. In fact, I'm making first line." Scott defends. "Hey, that's the spirit! Everyone should have a dream, even a pathetically unrealistic one." Stiles utters making Scott chuckle and shake his head.

"Just out of curiosity, which half of the body are we looking for?" He wonders curiously and Stiles furrows his eyebrows slightly. "Huh! I didn't even think about that." He admits and Scott nods. "And, uh...what if whoever killed the body is still out here?" He questions and Stiles purses his lips. "Also something I didn't think about." He mutters and Scott rolls his eyes in amusement. "Clearly." I mumble as we start to hike up a hill. "It's comforting to know you've planned this out with your usual attention to detail." Scott says and Stiles nods. "I know."

Scott's breathing suddenly becomes rapid shallow, and wheezy as we continue up the hill, as he struggles with our quick pace. "Maybe the severe asthmatic should be the one holding the flashlight, huh?" He asks as he leans back against a nearby tree and pulls his inhaler out of his pocket. I stop to wait for him as Stiles continues on and Scott reluctantly starts to follow him.
