EPILOGUE

Not all things end the way we expect it to be. Maraming posibilidad, maraming pwedeng mangyari. As they say, you can’t have everything. In life, you just have to be smart in choosing the right thing to be kept, and to be sacrificed.

“Who would ever thought it will all end up this way?” sabi ni Nico sa mga teammates niya habang nakatingin kay Kiefer, who was trying to shoot some hoops.

Von stared at his bestfriend. Alam niya kung gaano ka sakit ang nararamdaman ngayon ng kaibigan niya. He just lost someone he truely loves. At alam niyang hindi yun madali. “We thought everything’s going to be alright. But we’re wrong.”

A few more weeks, summer na. Days passed by so fast, but for Kiefer and Grace, it seems like it’s taking forever.

“Pareho silang nasasaktan, but we can’t do anything for them.” Sabi ni Juami sabay akbay kay Nico at Von. “They chose to end whatever they have.”

It was Valentines day nung hindi sumipot si Kiefer sa usapan nila ni Grace. That day changed everything between the two. And since that day, a decision was made.

“Grace.” Kiefer mumbled. He looked at her intently, not even breaking his gaze to her.

“Ba’t ang seryoso mo ah?” Grace chuckled as she placed his hand to his forehead. “wala ka namang lagnat ah?”

Nagulat si Grace nung inalis ni Kiefer yung kamay niya sa pagkakahawak sa kanya. With that, she felt something strange, something unusual. At kinabahan siya sa possibleng mangyari.

“I love you Grace.” Sabi ni Kiefer. “I love you...”

Napangiti si Grace, but it slowly faded when she heard his last words. “But I just have to let you go.”

She was lost for words. Gusto niyang magtanong, but it seemed like wala siyang lakas para magsalita. Everything seemed to fall into pieces.

“I’m sorry Grace.” Sabi ni Kief as he wiped her tears. Hindi na napansin ni Grace na umiiyak siya.

“Bakit?” she managed to ask.

Nasabunot ni Kiefer ang buhok niya. He knew na tatanungin at tatanungin yun ni Grace.

“I deserve an explanation di..ba?” she stuttered. “Ma—makikinig ako.”

He shook his head as he grabbed her for a hug. Alam niyang walang kwenta ang rason niya. Pero alam niya na he has to end everything they have, dahil kung hindi, alam niyang mas masasaktan lang silang dalawa.

“Kung.. dahil to sa..sa time.. okay lang naman sa’kin yun Kief eh.” she said between her sobs. “Naiintindihan ko naman.. na hindi ako ang priority mo.”

“Yun nga Grace eh.” Kief snapped as tears started flowing from his eyes. “Ayokong mangyari na hindi ikaw ang priority ko. You deserve something better.”

Grace broke the hug. She looked at him intently. “So this is your way? So you think I deserve this? Kief naman!”

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” Sabi ni Kiefer.

“Grace, ayokong umabot sa point na mapapagod ka na sa kahihintay sa akin.” He added. “Kahit masakit, I have to do this.”

Kasabay ng pagtulo ng kanilag mga luha, ganun din ang pagbasak ng ulan. Para bang nakikisabay sa pagluha nila ang langit.

Kiefer went near her and cupped her face. “I might regret doing this. Pero baka magsisi rin ako kung hindi ko to gawin.”

“I might not understand whatever you’re trying to do Kief.” Sabi ni Grace habang hinawakan ang kamay ni Kiefer na nasa mukha niya. “But if you think this is what is best for us..”

“then I’ll accept it.” She ended as she removed his hands from her face.

They both cried their hearts out. Pareho silang nasasaktan. Pero pareho nilang piniling tapusin na ang lahat. It was a choice they made knowing it is the best thing to do.

Nanlumo lahat ng saksi sa pagmamahalan nila. They didn’t last long, pero alam ng lahat kung gaano nila ka mahal ang isa’t isa.

Nakatingin lang ang teammates ni Kiefer sa kanya. They can’t do anything for him to ease all the pain he’s feeling. Bumalik siya sa dating siya, yung Kiefer na focus lang sa basketball. He’s focused on what he’s doing, pero hindi nila alam, he’s playing the game for Grace.

Isang napaka lame na epilogue. hahaha ewan, hindi ako marunong mag third person POV eh.
