It's been nearly two days since Riley had slept over at Arthur's house. She was staying over at Daniel's more because she started to feel embarrassed for stopping Arthur. She felt bad for getting so far just to cut it off, and she didn't know if he was upset with her or not. Daniel had let early that morning, and forgot his key on the counter. So when she heard a knock on the front door, she assumed it was him.
Riley hurried over from the living room to open the door, only to see Arthur standing outside. He held a bouquet of roses in his hands, almost shocked when Riley got the door so fast.
"Hi" Riley said softly, feeling her chest fall slightly when she saw Arthur.
"Can I come in?" He asked her, watching her nod. Riley stepped to the side, opening the door more so he could slide in. Arthur was relieved when he saw Riley was still wearing the necklace he got her. Not that she had a reason to take it off. "I didn't know what kind of flowers you like" He said, handing Riley the roses.
'Tulips' She thought to herself. 'I've told you that before'
"I like roses" Riley said, letting him kiss her when he leaned in. "Thank you" She told him, turning to the kitchen to get a vase out for the flowers.
"Can we talk for a little?" Arthur asked, wanting to take the conversation slow, but he needed to know what was happening between them eagerly.
"Sure" She said, "Daniel's going to be home any minute now though so"
"There's multiple rooms here," Arthur said, "We can separate ourselves"
"Okay" She said, looking at Arthur from across the counter. Riley walked back to the door, making sure it was unlocked for Daniel before she followed Arthur to her room. He closed the door behind them when Riley sat down on her bed. She had racing thoughts as she tried to figure out what she was going to say.
She didn't want to tell him she was insecure.
Riley didn't want Arthur to look at her body any different with knowing what was running through her mind constantly. Arthur stayed standing up in the room after the door was closed completely, not knowing if Riley wanted him to sit down on the bed with her.
"Arthur sit down" Riley said, "I don't bite"
"Well," He joked, sitting down across from her. "You have"
"You know what I mean" She said, holding one knee close to her chest. Riley looked at Arthur, resting her chin on top of her knee as she waited for him to start the conversation. He was the one who came over anyways.
"Are you falling out of love?" He asked her with furrowed brows. That's what he had worked up in his head the past two days. He didn't know what was happening between the two of them but he felt a small shift.
"No" Riley said quickly, "If anything I fall deeper every day"
"Then what is going on" Arthur asked, "I feel like we're drifting apart and I don't know if I did something wrong, if I made you feel uncomfortable with me" He started going on, "I want you to feel safe, I don't know what I did"
"You didn't do anything" Riley told him sighing, "I don't know I just psyched myself out"
"Why"
"Because you've been with so many people and I just got in my head" She emphasized, feeling bad about it because she's been with a number of people too. This was just different. Arthur's hooked up with models who are on a multitude of magazine covers. Riley's hooked up with frat guys and half the time she barely remembered it the next day.
"I'm not anymore" He tried telling her, "Riley you're the only one"
"I know, but that doesn't mean what Julia said didn't bother me" She told him, hearing the front door open followed by Daniel's voice that Riley and Arthur ignored.
