Max was on the move. He managed to get Daniel to take Riley out of the apartment space for a little bit, giving him a moment to call Sloan. There was 1 day left until Max had to go to Belgium for the Grand Prix, which made it harder for Daniel to get Riley out. When he asked if she wanted to go to the beach then dinner, her answer was 'I was going to look at vacant buildings with Max'.
Daniel had been texting Max on the side, relaying every message over to him, sending screenshots upon screenshots thinking there was no way in hell he was getting Riley to leave Max's side until he left for the Grand Prix. Max told Daniel to just come to the apartment and pick her up. She wouldn't say no if he was already there.
Max was standing on his room balcony, watching Riley pull out of the driveway in Daniel's car. He walked inside after they were gone. Max pulled out his phone and dialed Sloan's number. He had to contact her earlier in the week to find out when she was free to talk, with the time difference and Max's racing they had to work through their schedules. But Sloan was being difficult, just as she had been with everyone in her life lately.
"Give me two seconds I'm searching for my computer" Sloan told Max, tearing her messy room apart so she could hop on a zoom call with him.
"Just let me know when you're ready" He had her on speaker as he traveled down to his office.
"Was it hard to kick her out?" Sloan asked him, leaving her own room for Riley's. She had been sleeping in there every other week she stayed with Samantha.
"I wouldn't consider it kicking her out" Max put a halt to that narrative, "She's looking at buildings for JC's with Daniel"
"I don't think Kevin's actually too happy about that" Sloan told Max unsurely. She didn't want to spread misinformation, not again, she accidentally played into the narrative that Riley was pregnant after liking a few posts. Sloan had told one of her friends about Riley taking the test as-well, and it spread from there; only for photos of Max and Riley to get released on top of that.
"Well it's a good thing he doesn't own the place isn't it" Max sat down in his office chair, turning his computer on and setting down his phone. "She built that place up from scratch, Riles can do what she wants"
"It'll still affect other people" Sloan mumbled, sitting in Riley's bed and opening her computer. "It's all Tristen has left"
"I forgot he worked there" Max sighed, he had a million different tabs open on his screen. He was lost trying to get an engagement ring for Riley. He didn't know what she would like, and Riley made it clear she didn't want to be apart of the process. Max remembered that very well. "She might leave JC's as is and open up a cafe in addition"
It took another few minutes, but Max ended up on a zoom call with his screen shared with Sloan. That was the sole purpose of this call. Sloan was staring at her phone, listening to Max yap while her camera stayed off. If it was on, he would see how sick Sloan had been looking recently. It wasn't until he said her name that she realized he asked her a question.
"Can you say that one more time?" Sloan put her phone down, keeping him on speaker while she looked at the screen.
"What cut do you think Riley would like the best"
"Oh" Sloan brought the screen closer to herself. "Can you scroll" She asked and Max listened, scrolling slowly until Sloan said stop. "She'll like the square cut if it's larger and standing on its own. But, she'd like the Oval with multiple diamonds beside it, so it really depends on your budget"
"I don't really have a budget" Max told her, "Just whatever Riley likes"
"Okay well I know she won't want something too expensive"
