Riley was laying across the beach trying to get a quick tan on her and Max's final day in Saint Tropez. They stayed around the villa the past few days, only leaving to walk around town for a few hours or grab dinner. Max's main plan for the trip was to be alone with Riley, which was a success. People knew they were seeing each other again by now. Everyone pieced it together from the sightings of Riley in Max's garage, a couple short videos of them together at Jimmy'z; and now their recent sighting at the Horse Show.
Riley was laying down on towel in the sand outside of their temporary home. Her hand was placed over her phone, trying to block the sunlight from her screen so she could see what everyone was saying about her. It wasn't as bad as the treatment Arthur was getting. But her and Max weren't getting off the hook.
Max saw Riley on her phone when he was walking down the beach to her. He sighed already knowing what she was looking at. They agreed not to look at social media during their trip. Riley couldn't help herself.
"I thought we weren't looking" Max said, taking Riley's phone from her hands quickly.
"I was just checking" Riley sighed, covering her eyes from the sun as she looked up at him. "It's humorous what they're saying"
"Which is?" He asked as he shut her phone off completely, tossing it into the sand next to Riley's bag.
"They think we got together before me and Arthur broke up" Riley rolled her eyes, arching her back as she got more comfortable. Max sat down on the towel he set down a bit ago beside her.
"We had our moments" Max shrugged, seeing Riley's hand reach over for him out of the corner of his eye. Riley liked having a hand on Max as often as possible, she liked that physical connection. Where she hated PDA just the same as Max, just a hand to know he was still there made them both content in the moment.
"Yeah but they're coming at me about Kelsey" Riley hid her frown by turn her head the opposite direction. "I mean I understand it, but we didn't get together until you guys broke up"
"There were lines that we definitely crossed Riley" Max said, turning his phone off too and placing it next to hers.
"Maybe twice" Riley sighed, looking back over at Max. "The kiss and falling asleep together but that's really it"
"She knew we were going to get back together" Max added, trying to justify their actions. "It was just a matter of time"
"They have it all twisted though" Riley frowned, "I mean I thought we were doing a good job hiding everything"
"We know what happened," Max started, running his fingers through his hair. "That's all that matters. It's our relationship not theirs"
"I know," She sighed silently, "It's just so odd having our lives so public"
"Just say the word and we'll hide away"
"I think I might just delete social media" She moved her hand off him to fix her top. "That way I don't know what everyone's saying"
"How are you going to keep up with Sloan then?" Max proposed a question, Riley kept track of everything in Sloan's life through social media. She had to keep it.
"I'll stop posting then" She said, sitting in silence for a few minutes before she looked over at him again. "Did you put sunscreen on?" Riley asked him, switching the conversation because it was something she felt guilty about. "Your cheeks look a little rosy"
"You told me to before I came outside"
"I'm just checking" She sighed, sitting up to look at the water. Riley looked around, seeing someone walking along the beach she had thought was private. She didn't think anything of it until Max noticed them too.
