Max was putting down a drop cloth in the nursery upstairs, trying to pass time while
they waiting for Jade to arrive with the cake and paint. Riley was taping the walls, talking to Max excitedly non-stop. Max was expecting Riley to get a phone call when Jade arrived, so they knew when to go down to let her into the building. Max didn't realize Riley had gotten a key copied when he was in Mexico and gave it to her.
"Here!" Jade yelled when she walked through the front door down stairs.
"Coming!!!" Riley yelled back, leaving the tape as it was. "Max"
"I'm coming" Max got up and followed Riley out of the room.
Riley's heart beat rapidly as she walked down the hall ahead of Max. Jade was waiting in the kitchen, taking out two wine glasses for Max and Riley to use. Riley rushed down the stairs case at the end of the hall after passing the living room. Max was a bit slower, but equally as excited, hearing Riley's voice from the kitchen as he was halfway down the staircase.
"How the hell did you get into the building" Max asked firstly when he walked into the kitchen.
"Riley gave me a spare and code" Jade said, putting out new paint trays, brushes and rollers and set them next to the paint cans that she put inside of a bag. "Here's the paint for their nursery, AFTER you guys cut the cake"
"Is it the right color?" Max stood behind Riley at the counter, feeling her nudge him away lightly.
"It is the one Riley sent me.... so yes" Jade nodded, grabbing her keys from the counter. "Well, I'll leave you guys to it! Call me after Rye"
"I will" Riley told her, looking towards Max, "Can you get my camera"
"Where is it" He sighed, heading towards the hall.
"Dining room" She watched him leave before walking Jade to the front door. "Thank you so much for everything," Riley held the door open for Jade, "I gave you a check already right?"
"Oui" Jade nodded, "Everything is taken care of"
"I'm just double checking" Riley starting to close the door behind her, "Bye-bye"
"Ciao!"
"Max!!" Riley said, grabbing a small white cardboard box that held the cake in it. She picked up the two champagne glasses and forks that Jade got out and headed towards the hall Max had started walking down towards the patio.
The sun had started setting, casting an orange glow across the sky. Max brought a blanket with him to the patio, he began laying it out neatly by the time Riley was walking outside. She closed the door behind her and took a deep breath, walking towards Max who had sat down a a few feet away from the pool they had put a cover on that week for the winter.
"So the cake is lemon" Riley said, passing Max the box, "And then-" She sat down next to him while he was taking the cake out of the box. "I think Jade said if the frostings blue it'll be vanilla, and if it's pink it'll be raspberry"
"What do we do though" Max tossed the box to the side, while Riley got the camera to start recording.
"So-" Riley moved closer to him, "We take the glass upside down and use them to cut into the cake" She handed him his glass, "But keep your eyes closed until we both have cake in the glass."
"Eyes closed, got it" Max kissed Riley's cheek quickly, "Are you going to share your guess at all?"
"Mmm... I think we're having a boy" She said quietly, moving her hand in-front of her eyes when the sunlight reflected into them. "Do you?"
