Riley felt terrible the next morning when she woke up in the same position she laid down in. Between Max's legs on his lap while he was propped up against the headboard. She asked him about his back the entire time they got ready. She knew it must've been sore, he didn't spend a single hour of the night laying down.
Her and Max didn't walk into the paddocks together. She was waiting outside with Gustav for Joshua and Misty. Everyone else was already inside the Red Bull garage. Riley waved when she saw Griffin being held by Joshua. She started talking to Gustav rapidly, trying to hide the nerves she was feeling now with the media dissecting her.
"Hi Griffin" Riley said sweetly, receiving a small wave. "Look at that smile- you got that from your mama"
"Do you want to take him?" Josh asked when Griffin started gravitating towards Riley.
"Are you sure?" She asked, reaching her hands out hesitantly. "I don't know if you want him seen with me right now.."
"Riley" Joshua said, "Take him"
"I've got him" She smiled, holding him in her arms, "You might not get him back though"
"We might have issues if that's the case" Misty laughed, walking next to Riley as Joshua and Gustav took the lead.
"Oh I'll take care of him" Riley joked, tickling Griffin's sides as they walked through the gates. "Won't I Griff?" She got a smile in response, and that was enough for her.
"Did you figure out a statement?" Josh asked her, letting Gustav guide the way.
"I think me and Max are going to play it low-key for now" Riley said, which is the exact opposite of what he wanted to hear.
"I don't think that's smart" Joshua already planned to make a statement of his own after this weekend. He knew what happened to Riley, he was there. "You don't want everyone to think you psychotically framed someone for your Ex's death"
"People are gonna think what they want" She said, following behind Gustav, feeling eyes strictly on her. "I'd rather not add fuel to the fire"
"Do what you want Riley" Misty agreed with her, although she knew Joshua was going to do as he please. Josh liked Max, he wouldn't deny that, but he hated the media that came served on a plate with him.
Riley hated the media last year before Max, she hated it with Max, most definitely after, and she still hated it now.
Without Max's knowledge there was a Red Bull mechanic waiting outside the garage. They were standing outside for Riley, only doing what Christian Horner had told her to. Christian thought it'd be best if Riley didn't watch the remaining events this weekend from the garage. He didn't think it was a good look for the brand. Obviously, Max would've disagreed if he knew what was happening. He was only inside talking to mechanics.
"Sorry the garage is actually over capacity right now" The mechanic told Riley after Misty walked inside. Josh was halfway in when he heard what was said, instead of continuing forward he turned around to listen in.
"That doesn't make any sense" Riley shook her head, "I was in there yesterday"
"It was a safety hazard yesterday too" She said, feeling anxious as she lied.
"Then we can swap" Josh said, "You go in, I'll find somewhere else to watch from"
"We actually-"
"Are you guys coming" Misty poked her head back out after realizing she had walked in alone.
"Apparently the garage is to it's capacity" Riley said, knowing that wasn't actually the case.
"Oh" Misty looked confused, "That doesn't make any sense"
