Chapter 4

Xiaodan sat there, frozen as if she had heard it wrong. Before she could utter a word, MengYao happily congratulated her.

"Xiaodan, you're back in the game. Took them long enough to get you back in the system," MengYao said with a slight smile.

"Senior Zixin, are you playing a trick on me," Xiaodan said cautiously.

Senior Zixin raised his eyebrows, shocked by the fact that Xiaodan didn't seem to believe him.

"Have I ever lied to you before?" he said, frowning.

"Ah, no!" Xiaodan quickly said, trying to avoid any misunderstanding. "It just...feels so unreal to me," she said.

Senior Zixin softly smiled at her remark and understood her. "Yes, it's real. That's why they gave me your case file so I can personally tell you the good news," he said.

Instantly, Xiaodan felt her heart jumping in joy. A bright smile appeared on her face. She quickly started reading her case file, and both MengYao and Senior Zixin noticed her eager demeanor, which brought smiles to their faces.

Before Xiaodan could focus on her file, Senior Zixin remembered something.

"Xiaodan, just a reminder: try not to get too emotionally involved with your case, okay? Remember, we Cupid assistants may have emotions like humans, but that doesn't mean we are the same."

Xiaodan was well aware that Cupid's assistants, like herself, have emotions like humans, which helps them understand and guide their assigned targets to fall in love. However, unlike humans, they are unable to feel love themselves to prevent them from falling in love. They only have an understanding and logical approach to love.

Xiaodan just smiled and answered, "I know...don't worry."

"Alright..," Senior Zixin nodded his head and gave out a small smile. "Well then, since I still have stuff to do, I'll leave you two to your cases then," he said, leaving.

"Xiaodan, don't be disheartened by Senior Zixin's words. He's just full of black water," MengYao said, noticing Xiaodan's quiet expression when Senior Zixin reminded her.

Xiaodan softly chuckled, "Don't worry, MengYao. I'm not discouraged by his words. Senior Zixin was kindly reminding me because he didn't want me to get into trouble again. Also, how is he black-bellied?"

"Think about it, Xiaodan. How can he be where he is now? He is only three hundred years older than us, and he's already in a high position... Also, I have seen it before," MengYao said in a discreet tone.

While they were talking, they soon heard someone clearing their throat from above them.

"Ah.., Senior Zixin. I thought you already left," Xiaodan said in an awkward tone with an embarrassed smile.

MengYao glanced behind her and saw Senior Zixin smiling sweetly, unbothered.

"I wanted to say something else to you both, but I seem to have forgotten since I heard someone bad-mouthing me," he said with eyes smiling at them, but then he directly looked at MengYao.

" It looks like one case isn't enough for you. Should I let the higher-up know that you can manage two cases?" he said with a smile as if he was teasing her, but his eyes were cold. MengYao shuddered but still stood her ground. He noticed her tremble as his eyes displayed a slight amusement and instantly changed into his normal facial expression

"Just messing with you." he said.

"Yeah, sure..." MengYao said unfazed.

"So, where is your assignment taking place?" MengYao said as Senior Zixin was long gone, and now, they had settled down while Xiaodan was reading through her file.

"It looks like my two assigned people are university students in the business department at University A," Xiaodan said.

"Oh, University A?" MengYao said enthusiasticly. "My assignment is at University B. Like an hour away," she said.

"However, I heard many things about University A. It's the best university in the city, but only extremely rich students and top students with outstanding grades who have full scholarships go there," she added.

"Really?" Xiaodan said, looking at her file.

"Oh, you're right. One of my assigned people is a wealthy person. Feng Yichen."

"Feng Yichen! His family is well-known in the whole city. They own the most wealthiest company." MengYao said.

Xiaodan slightly pouted her lips before saying, "Great, that means he might be a stuck up."

"That might be the case," MengYao said, "Why don't you just check them out," she added.

"Yeah, I might check them out before deciding on the plan," Xiaodan said, closing the folder.
