Chapter 66

Chen Yang soon finished packing up and hugged her parents goodbye.

"Xiaodan, do you know these people well?" Chen Yang asked.

"Somewhat," Xiaodan answered. Before Chen Yang could ask more questions, a server called out.

"Xiaodan, there are some people here, looking for you," the server said.

"Ah, thank you," she answered.

Xiaodan and Chen Yang stepped out of the tavern and immediately met them. They were all waiting for them. Jiu Jun was the first to greet them until he met eyes with Chen Yang.

"You!" Both of them said, staring at each other.

Jiu Jun looked at He Jingy while Chen Yang glanced at Xiaodan, but soon looked in the direction Jiu Jun was looking. She immediately saw He Jingy.

"Xiaodan, isn't that the man who had a sword by your neck last time?" Chen Yang said, rushing closer to Xiaodan and whispering into her ear.

"Mmm," Xiaodan nodded her head.

"Xiaodan, you should reconsider. They don't seem trustworthy," Chen Yang added, worried.

"Don't worry, Chen Yang. They are trustworthy," Xiaodan softly assured her, and happened to look up and saw He Jingy glancing at them.'

Jiu Jun walked up to him. "Jingy, aren't those the two girls from the inn? What are they doing here?" Jiu Jun whispered to He Jingy.

"She's the storyteller," He Jingy said, staring at Xiaodan.

"What! No way! They must be a fraud," Jiu Jun said.

Before Jiu Jun asked why he didn't stop this.

"Zhong had already agreed with the Crown Princess Zhao Ying's choice. There was no say in their decision," He Jingy said.

Jiu Jun was a bit shocked by Fu Zhong's willingness to go along with Zhao Ying.

"I'll keep my eyes on them. One slip up, they are done for," He Jingy said, deadly, looking at Xiaodan.

Xiaodan walked up to them and greeted them all, as Chen Yang followed behind. "I hope you don't mind if I bring someone along with us?" Xiaodan asked.

"Why? How is she related to you, or how is she going to help us find the water dragon? We don't need someone to slow us down?" Zhang Yuz said, snarkily.

"She has nothing to relate to the water dragon. She is a friend of mine. You all are strangers. I don't feel comfortable with you all and hoped to bring someone I am familiar with to come along. Also, it looks like there are 4 strong men here. Are you saying you guys are not capable of protecting 3 ladies?" Xiaodan said.

Zhang Yuz gritted his teeth.

"That is fine. Come join me inside." Zhao Ying said, pushing the window curtain aside.

"Ying," Zhang Yuz said, looking at Zhao Ying as Fu Zhong immediately furrowed his eyebrows and glared at Zhang Yuz.

"I don't think it's a good idea to share a carriage with those two. They are practically strangers. They can walk alongside the carriage," Zhang Yuz said.

Chen Yang wanted to argue back, but before she could, Xiaodan glanced at Zhang Yuz and gave a smile, "Alright, we can walk beside the carriage, but don't forget we are two frail women and tend to get tired easily, so don't blame us for slowing you guys down and making the journey even longer than it has to be. And may I remind you all, it was you guys who asked me for a favor, not the other way around."

Everyone stared at her smile. Even though she was smiling, her smile was sharp, giving them a cold sensation on their backs.

"Chen Yang, since we are walking. Let us eat a hearty meal first," Xiaodan turned to Chen Yang.

"Ah, yes...," Chen Yang said, a bit stunned by Xiaodan's cold smile a few minutes ago, but now it turned into a warm smile. She hadn't seen Xiaodan like this before. She hurried to follow Xiaodan.

"You all can start ahead without us if you want. We will catch up with you guys hopefully later...," Xiaodan said as if she was implying she was no longer going. She once again smiled at them before turning her back to them.

"Wait!" Zhao Ying stopped them. "I apologize on Yuz's behalf. He is just concerned for my safety. I hope you are not offended. Please join me. We most certainly don't want you two to walk," Zhao Ying quickly said, trying to reconcile.

"I...apologize for my rudeness," Zhang Yuz gritted his teeth. Since Zhao Ying had apologized, it's only right for him to follow.

Xiaodan wasn't bothered to make a fuss and entered the carriage with Chen Yang.
