Chapter 5

On the university campus, numerous students hurried by, making their way to classes or dorms. In the midst of everything, Xiaodan, in casual clothes with a black cap on her head, sat on the bench, observing the many passing students. She took a sip out of her vanilla iced latte before looking at the small clock tower.

"They should be passing by now," she mumbled to herself.

Once the clock struck two, three remarkable men exited the building. All eyes were on them. Many female students blushed as they watched them go by.

Xiaodan caught sight of them and couldn't help but stare as she leisurely sipped her drink away.

She wasn't surprised how handsome they were. Feng Yichen had an aloof and cold aura around him, especially his eyes. They were dead cold.

Remembering her case file, Feng Yichen came from a rich family, the wealthiest in the city. His father, Feng Muchen held the largest portion of the Feng asset, while his younger brother (Feng Yichen's uncle), Feng Muyang held a small portion of the Feng asset.
To ensure a strong business connection, Feng Muchen was forced to marry Zhao Ehuang (Feng Yichen's mother). Zhao Ehuang has been in love with Feng Muchen since the day she first laid eyes on him. However, Feng Muchen never felt the same way and soon had an affair with someone else and had an illegitimate child, which caused a huge ruckus in Feng Yichen's childhood as his mother went insane. She refused to divorce and started forcing Feng Yichen to be better. She wanted Feng Yichen to be better than the illegitimate child. Better at everything.

As for his father, he only wanted results and nothing else, as he had no speck of interest in his son whatsoever.

Having never received any sort of love at a young age, he grew indifferent to affection and wanted nothing to do with his so-called family.

Xiaodan slowly moved her attention to his friends. Feng Yichen has two friends, Wu Mingze and Zhu Haoran.

Wu Mingze had an inexplicable aura that Xiaodan couldn't describe. It was like a settling, reassuring, or perhaps calming aura around him as the light gleamed off his glasses.

Wu Mingze and Feng Yichen are childhood friends. Wu Mingze was familiar with Feng Yichen's terrible childhood because he had seen it all. He was the only one who provided Feng Yichen with a place to shelter away from his family. However, they lost contact when Feng Yichen was forced to study abroad at the age of ten, but they soon met again through Zhu Haoran, as Zhu Haoran and Wu Mingze were high school friends.

Zhu Haoran met Feng Yichen on the first day of university and quickly befriended him, and soon they became a trio.

Xiaodan soon focused her eyes on Zhu Haoran.

Zhu Haoran had a lively aura around him and had a silly smile. Zhu Haoran was extremely important to Xiaodan's case. He is the connection between her two assigned people.

Zhu Haoran is related to her other assigned person, Li Chyou, as they are cousins. Li Chyou is currently living with Zhu Haoran's family as her parents recently died in an accident. Her aunt, on her father's side, was willing to take in Li Chyou. Li Chyou was very thankful for their generosity, but she still felt she was a burden to her aunt's family and struggled to open up and rely on them, even though they truly cared for her.

Her reluctance to open up stemmed from her tormenting past. Throughout her childhood, she was bullied by her classmates. Since her family was slightly on the poor side, her classmates would constantly bully and belittle her. Leading her to endure and depend on herself.

Xiaodan felt this case was quite a challenge. How could she bring these two individuals together when one is so closed off to love and the other has difficulty trusting others?

While Xiaodan was thinking to herself, she noticed a female student had a pink envelope in her hands. She walked up to Feng Yichen and soon she was proclaiming her sincere crush on Feng Yichen.

Once she finished confessing, she handed the pink envelope to him, waiting for him to grab it. However, Feng Yichen took one glance at her before he scoffed and walked right past her as if he didn't notice or hear her. Immediately, the female's friends hurried to her side to comfort her.

In an instant, Xiaodan heard people talking behind her, "There goes another girl that Feng Yichen completely ignored and rejected. I don't know why all the girls have a thing for him. Like, I know he's super rich and quite good-looking, but with his attitude, do they ever learn? Come on, guys like us are way better than Feng Yichen."

Xiaodan decided she had seen enough before she got up from the bench and took a deep sigh. As she was busy leaving without a trace, her sigh seemed to intrigue two men.

Feng Yichen was slightly disturbed by that deep sigh as he looked back at a female wearing a black cap walking away in the opposite direction from them. Meanwhile, Wu Mingze experienced a strange sensation tingling down his spine. He glanced back, only to find her slowly fading into the crowd.
