Once class was over, Xiaodan and Zhu Haoran were about to head out first before Wu Mingze was about to come along with them.
"Don't worry, you don't need to come along, Wu Mingze. I just need Zhu Haoran's help," Xiaodan said, stopping Wu Mingze from coming with them. He looked at her as she sheepishly smiled before leaving with Zhu Haoran.
_____
"What do you need help with?" Zhu Haoran asked as they were walking closer to the art department.
"Ah, Fu Xiang asked me to help her move some of her art stuff, and I thought you would be the perfect helper. With your strong muscles, we will be finished in no time," Xiaodan fibbed.
"Oh, I see," Zhu Haoran gave a coy smile as he was extremely happy to be praised. Xiaodan smiled at Zhu Haoran's silly smile as she knew he wouldn't question or think too much.
Looking at his file, Zhu Haoran's partner was a freshman student in the art department. Her name is Liu Jiayi, and she is a lone wolf. She likes to be alone and mind her own business with music in her ears. She didn't really pay attention to others since she did her own thing, so not that many people noticed her. She was laid-back but hardworking, coming from a humble family that ran a small restaurant. With her top grades, she was able to enter University A.
Xiaodan's plan was for them to run into each other by chance. She had found out through Fu Xiang that they were moving their artwork to another area for better storage. Both Xiaodan and Zhu Haoran turned the corner, and suddenly Zhu Haoran bumped into someone who was carrying their art model. He tried to catch the person, but he wasn't quick enough, and she ended up landing on her bottom. Fortunately, her art model remained mostly intact as she held it tightly in her hands.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't see you coming. Are you okay?" Zhu Haoran quickly said and lent his hand out.
Xiaodan was slightly surprised to see it happened faster than expected.
"It's fine," Liu Jiayi said. She then looked at her art project and saw some areas were damaged and some pieces were all over the floor.
"Oh no, your artwork! I'm so sorry." Zhu Haoran said, crouching down and helping her pick up the pieces.
"It's fine. It's not your fault. We both didn't expect that to happen." she said, picking up the broken pieces.
Xiaodan was about to crouch down and help them as well, but Zhu Haoran looked up at her, remembering that they were supposed to help Fu Xiang.
"Xiaodan, you go on ahead. Fu Xiang is probably waiting for you. Once I finish up here, I will catch up with you guys," Zhu Haoran said.
"You sure?" Xiaodan said, trying to make it sound like she was reluctant to leave.
"Yeah, go on ahead," he said.
"Okay, but don't worry about coming to help us. I'll text Wu Mingze. You focus on helping her," Xiaodan said as she happily left.
"Mmm!" Zhu Haoran agreed and nodded his head. Once Xiaodan walked away, she glanced back at them to see them cleaning up the floor as the bell on her bracelet rang.
__
"You don't have to help me. I can finish up by myself. You can go and help your friends." Liu Jiayi said.
"But it was partly my fault," Zhu Haoran said, picking up the last piece. "Here you go," he said, looking up at her and handing her all the pieces he grabbed.
"Thank you," she said, slightly bowing her head as she took the pieces he picked up.
"No problem," He continued to look at her, but then he noticed her 3D art model of a building wasn't in a good condition.
"I feel terrible for ruining your artwork. How about this? Let me help you rebuild it. I'm not good at building or doing any arts and crafts stuff, but I can help hold down any pieces you need to be glued back together or help fan the glue to make it dry faster," Zhu Haoran suggested, feeling bad for ruining her work.
"That won't be necessary. It's fine. I can do it on my own," she said, declining his offer.
"No, I insist. It's kind of my fault, so let's exchange contact information. Text me if you need any help. It's the least I can do," Zhu Haoran said.
_____
"Xiaodan? What brings you here?" Fu Xiang asked, surprised to see Xiaodan, as Xiaodan never planned to meet up with Fu Xiang.
"Well, I heard you say you are moving your artwork to another area yesterday. So I thought to drop by and help you out," Xiaodan said.
"Aww, that's not necessary." Fu Xiang said, touched.
"It's no problem. I wasn't planning to do anything this afternoon. Also, we are roommates, so we should help each other out," Xiaodan said.
"Thank you. I will treat you to dinner tonight," Fu Xiang said as they started carrying Fu Xiang's artwork.
"I should be thanking you for giving me an excuse to come here," Xiaodan thought to herself while the heart-shaped bell dangled against her wrist.
