"Auntie Mo," Xiaodan came running to her.
"Xiaodan, what brings you here? Have you completed your first mid-level case?" Auntie Mo asked once Xiaodan reached her.
"No, but I need your help," Xiaodan said, catching her breath.
"Hmm? What is it?" Auntie Mo said.
"The priest. The Taoist priest who sealed the dragon. Where is he? I know you told me he is still alive. Don't I need to find him to unseal her?" Xiaodan asked.
"Yes, you do. All I know is he lives in a small cottage in the forest," Auntie Mo said.
"Now that I am thinking about it. How is it possible for him to be alive?" Xiaodan said.
"Easy. He is an immortal, too. He is the temporary caretaker of the forest until the water dragon's punishment is lifted. He has been waiting a long time to go back to the heavens." Auntie Mo said.
________
"Are you sure you can complete this task?" Xiaodan asked, looking at a few rugged men.
"Yes, of course," one of the men said, nodding his head.
"Good. Remember, all you need to do is try to act like bandits, but keep your distance so you can escape easily. And if possible, hit the horse with a stone to startle it. Once it's startled, run. Don't stick together, run in different directions so we don't catch you guys," Xiaodan instructed.
"Yes," they nodded.
"I will give you my signal by raising a red handkerchief," Xiaodan added.
"Alright, thank you all for assisting me," Xiaodan thanked them.
"No, thank you, Miss Li, for giving us money to help our families," one of the men said.
Xiaodan had found a group of peasant hunters who go hunting for food or sell meat to butchers to earn a living for their families.
Since they hunt, they have a more rugged look to help make it more believable for her plan to work.
________
"Xiaodan, can I come too! Please," Chen Yang begged as she had been pleading since last night when Xiaodan had informed Chen Yang's parents that she was departing.
"What about your parents, Chen Yang?" Xiaodan asked.
"They will be fine. They have plenty of workers, plus wouldn't they want me to go out there to find a suitable, reliable partner? How can I find someone when I am stuck here? I need to find a partner who can work hard and help my family," Chen Yang said, genuinely, but also making excuses.
Xiaodan slightly sighed and said, "You should ask your parents first." She knew Chen Yang's parents would agree since they were very loving and soft-hearted parents and had the tendency to spoil both of their children.
"I already did last night, and they agreed, but I must be on my best behavior," Chen Yang said.
Xiaodan once again softly sighed, "Alright, prepare your stuff." Xiaodan was worried that this might be a long and treacherous journey for Chen Yang to be able to handle. She did indeed think it would be nice to have a friend with her or even a little helper with her matchmaking, but she was still a bit reluctant.
Chen Yang bloomed a smile and hurried off to get her stuff sorted. Once she left the room, Chen Yang's mother entered.
"Li Xiaodan, I apologize on behalf of my daughter. My husband and I spoil her and her brother too much. I hope once she experiences the hardship of being away from her home, she will realize how hard life is, and she will be able to pick up her act and become more mature and sensible. Here is some money for your journey and taking my daughter," Chen Yang's mother said, handing her a small bag of money.
"Auntie Chen, no need for the money. I don't mind, really. I am happy to bring Chen Yang along. I will have a friend during this journey. Keep your hard-earned money for you and your family. I will take good care of Chen Yang and will return her safe and sound," Xiaodan said, slightly pushing the bag of money back to Chen Yang's mother.
"Thank you, Li Xiaodan," Chen Yang's mother said once again.
