"So are you going to tell me what I did wrong?" Wu Mingze patted her back, trying to soothe her. Xiaodan didn't speak but sniffled instead. She continued to hug him.

"Why...do you like me?" Xiaodan softly said.

"Hmm...I don't know. I just do. You are stubborn and determined, but you are kind-hearted and very lively, which makes my days bright and happy," he said, holding her tightly.

"I'm...not stubborn...," Xiaodan softly whined.

Wu Mingze chuckled, "Yes, you are not stubborn but very determined."

"Hmph," Xiaodan buried her face into his chest.

"Are you no longer sad?" Wu Mingze said, resting his chin on her head. Xiaodan didn't speak again and kept quiet as they held each other.

"What about you? Do you like me?" Wu Mingze asked. Xiaodan went silent. She listened to his fast heartbeat and felt her heart was becoming in sync with his.

"I...I don't know...," Xiaodan said, looking up at him. They looked deep into each other's eyes. Wu Mingze soon leaned closer.

"How about I kiss you and see how you feel," he asked, getting closer.

"Why do I feel like you just want to kiss me?" Xiaodan couldn't help but smile as her tears were drying up.

"Hmm, you could say something like that," Wu Mingze softly teased.

Xiaodan chuckled as they stared into each other's eyes again.

"So can I kiss you?" Wu Mingze asked.

Xiaodan quietly nodded her head. Wu Mingze's eyes twinkled. He quickly leaned in and grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her towards him. He kissed her lips. He wanted to deepen the kiss, but he instantly composed himself and pulled back. He didn't want to scare her off.

Xiaodan felt in a daze and a bit lost and empty when he pulled away. He slightly chuckled, looking at her. Before Wu Mingze could tease her, a voice spoke.

"I see you two have come together. Good," a man in red approached them. Soon, Xiaodan and Wu Mingze realized that everything had frozen in place; only they and the two men were still moving.

"Who...are you two?" Wu Mingze asked, shielding Xiaodan.

"We mean no harm," Fate said, getting closer to them.

"How can I believe you?" Wu Mingze said, wary.

"Xiaodan!" A voice called out. MengYao and Senior Zixin appeared. "There you are-" MengYao said, but stopped once she saw the situation.

"I see you two are here already. I guess there's no need for MengYao and me," Senior Zixin said calmly. "Did she do it?" He added, looking at Xiaodan and Wu Mingze.

Cupid didn't answer but shook his head once.

"Who are they?" MengYao whispered to Senior Zixin, grabbing the corner of his sleeve.

"Why don't you introduce yourself?" Senior Zixin said, lazily to the two men.

Cupid just smiled before saying, "Alright, let me introduce myself to help ease the tension. You all may know me. I'm Cupid."

Both Xiaodan and MengYao's eyes widened in surprise, and they were too stunned to speak. MengYao opened her mouth but shut it again. She was speechless.

"Alright, let's settle this," Fate said, stepping forward. "As you can tell, we are not mortals. Do you still want to be with her? She's one of Cupid's assistants. An immortal who can't feel love," Fate added, looking at Wu Mingze.

Wu Mingze didn't hesitate and answered, "Yes."

"Then are you willing to wait for her?" Fate said. Even though he knew how long he had already waited.

"Yes. It doesn't matter how long," Wu Mingze answered firmly.

"Are you dumb?" Xiaodan said, tugging Wu Mingze's hand. He turned to look at her as she looked at him with red eyes again. "You know I'm not mortal....and I can't love," Xiaodan mumbled.

Wu Mingze took hold of her hand and placed it on his chest. She felt the rhythm of his heartbeat. "It's fine, I can show you," Wu Mingze said in a loving tone. He smiled at her and gazed into her eyes. She instantly felt her heart skip a beat and nodded her head as she fell into his gaze.

"Good," Fate nodded his head, watching their lovely moment. "But before you guys can be together. Xiaodan will have to come back with us," Fate said.

"Why is that? You're not planning to punish her, right?" Wu Mingze said, becoming wary again and shooting them a cold glare.

Fate chuckled, "Nothing like that. Rest assured, she will not be punished."

Wu Mingze still didn't let his guard down. Xiaodan squeezed his hand. "Don't worry. I'll be fine. I'll be back soon," Xiaodan said, patting his hand.

Soon, they took Xiaodan away. Wu Mingze watched them leave as Xiaodan looked back at Wu Mingze one more time before they disappeared. Days went by, and soon months passed. Wu Mingze continued his days but constantly waited.

"Any word on Xiaodan? She just came back, and once again she disappeared," Li Chyou asked Wu Mingze as they finished class.

"I hope she is okay," Li Chyou said, worried.

"Does it have to do with something back at home again?" Zhu Haoran asked, getting up.

"Something like that," Wu Mingze answered, quick and simple. "I'm going to head out first," Wu Mingze slung his bag strap over his shoulder.

"Why does he leave so quickly? Doesn't he want to hang out with us?" Zhu Haoran said.

"What do you think? He doesn't want to be a third wheel with people who are in a relationship." Feng Yichen said, raising an eyebrow.

"Are you trying to imply something? Am I interrupting you two love birds? Well, don't worry, I have my own plans," Zhu Haoran said, puffing his chest.

"Does it have to do with Liu Jiayi?" Li Chyou teased.

"Maybe...," Zhu Haoran said, avoiding their gazes and his cheeks turning red. "Well, I've got to go," he ran off. Both Li Chyou and Feng Yichen chuckled before they left the classroom with their hands together.

Wu Mingze had left the college building and was walking across the campus to head to the dorms.

A bright, lively voice shouted, "Mingze!"

Wu Mingze instantly knew that voice and saw Xiaodan running towards him. He immediately lit up and ran towards her. She jumped into his arms as he caught her. He lifted her and twirled her around as they hugged each other tightly.

"You're finally back...I missed you," he said, resting his face against her chest.

"Mmm," Xiaodan said, leaning against him. "I can finally be with you. I am a mortal now," Xiaodan whispered.

Wu Mingze pulled back and looked at her. "...Are you okay with that?" Wu Mingze asked.

Xiaodan smiled brightly, "Yes. Of course! I love you!" She grabbed his face and gave him a peck on his lips. She quickly laughed at his stunned reaction.

"Y-you...," Wu Mingze stuttered before snapping out and immediately taking her breath away, as they felt the bright sun beaming down on them, giving them warmth.
