MengYao cleared her throat as she was disguised like a middle-aged man by the power of the bracelet, as Xiaodan had previously disguised herself as the scholar.

"What brings you here again? Haven't I already given you your ointment?" MengYao said in a male voice, looking at Xiaodan with a group of people behind her.

"Ah, these people came to ask you about that night when you stumbled across the small hut in the forest," Xiaodan said.

"Why," MengYao said, scrunching her eyebrows together, acting like an old, stubborn man.

Zhang Yuz was about to argue, but Zhao Ying stopped him.

MengYao gave up on playing hard to get, and sighed, "It's simple. It was late one night, and I lost my way and happened to stumble across a small hut in the forest. I was too scared to approach. Who in their right mind would want to live in the middle of the forest, so I quickly left. I could barely remember the way I saw the hut."

They all quietly listened and looked at each other.

They had decided to take a chance and see if they could find the small hut. The carriage was too big to go between the trees, so they decided to ride their horses instead. Zhao Ying rode with Fu Zhong. Fu Zhong didn't like the thought of Zhao Ying riding with Zhang Yuz. Xiaodan was happy to ride along with He Jingy. Chen Yang rode with Jiu Jun, even though she somewhat disliked him; she did not want to ride with Zhang Yuz. He was more of an annoyance to her.

During the ride, He Jingy had Xiaodan sit in front of him in his arms around her. He held the reins, and he directed the horse. Xiaodan couldn't help but pet his horse. She thought she was being subtle, but he noticed her. His eyes caught her bracelet.

"Where did you get that bracelet. As I said before, it's very unique. I have never seen that design before," He Jingy said, narrowing his eyes.

"Can't remember. I had this for so long," Xiaodan casually said, lifting her wrist and looking at the bracelet. "With your status, you probably have lots of money. Why don't you have someone custom make this for you since you keep asking me?" Xiaodan added.

"I'm not sure if someone is capable of capturing the same design as yours, but I may be wrong, as I said before, I saw a scholar wearing the exact same one as yours." He Jingy's voice became low.

Xiaodan soon realized he was bringing that conversation up again as she felt a small shiver run down her spine.

"Do you happen to know him? Miss Chen said you went out to meet an old friend. Is your friend perhaps a man?" He Jingy said, looking down at her.

At first, Xiaodan assumed he was going to bring up dressing as a man again, but instead, he asked her if she knew him. For some reason, the tone of his voice sounded irritated.

"Are you perhaps jealous?" Xiaodan glanced up at him.

"What. Why would I?" He Jingy was startled by her question and avoided her gaze.

"Oh," Xiaodan nodded her head. "Well, to answer your question, no. My friend is a lady," she answered, looking straight ahead as they continued to ride along with the rest.

"I see...," he said, no longer asking more questions, and continued to direct the horse with his ears turning pink.

______

"Are you comfortable?" Fu Zhong asked Zhao Ying as she was sitting in front of him, in his arms.

"Mm," Zhao Ying nodded as she felt he was getting closer to her and his arms were wrapping her closer.
