Garreth tried to smile confidently at Diana, but he was nervous beyond anything he had ever felt. He had worked through what he wanted to say to her a thousand times. He had even mustered up the courage a few times to talk to her once he heard she was awake, but chickened out every time. He wasn't normally so hesitant about things, actually having more caution was something his aunt frequently told him he should have more of. Yet here he was, words stuck in his throat, absolutely out of his element.
Diana didn't say anything either, to Garreth it seemed she was feeling just as awkward as he felt. But he didn't want her to feel like she had to make him comfortable, he had to be the one to talk first. So he took a breathe and decided to just go for it;
"Hey I am really sorry about everything. All the things you said to me were true and I feel awful about it. I um tend to overlook a lot of people when it comes to all my potions experiments, and you aren't the first person to let me know I may have walked all over them." He paused for just a moment, letting her take in his words before starting up again.
"I'll be honest I really hadn't given you much thought outside of how you could help me. But when I heard about the battle, and I came to see you and you were so beat up... I just realized that we could have lost you, and I would have lost the chance to get to know you. Even before you told me how you felt, I decided that I wanted to make sure to get to know you for you and not just in relation to my work. I mean if you'll let me that is..."
Garreth ended his speech quietly, watching Diana for her response. He was relieved when after a moment she looked at him too, with a smile and a nod. He felt a grin grow across his own face. He was happy to know that she had accepted him, and felt like he was given a new start at things. Vowing to himself that he would be a good friend, and hopefully be worthy of getting to be her friend.
