It took Ominis a few moments to finally be ready to let go once they touched down. Nothing went wrong during their flight, but she figured even then it was still enough to put him on edge. She waited patiently as he removed his arms from her and tentatively stepped off the broom.
"You good?" she asked, looking him over for any signs that he in fact was not. He looked somehow more pale than usual, but other than that everything looked normal.
"Right as rain, although I may need a few minutes to get my bearings."
When he spoke he wobbled a little, and Diana jumped over to him and grabbed him for support. He thanked her, tried to right himself again, but she held on tight to his side, not allowing him to leave. Her arm was around his waist and she grabbed his arm and threw it over her shoulder. He didn't fight her, instead he dropped himself a little, allowing her to support some of his weight.
"You can head over without me-" he tried to say but she cut him off.
"There is no way I am going anywhere without you. Are you good to walk?"
He just nodded his head, and the two of them headed off towards the house. It wasn't far off, but the Hufflepuff hadn't wanted to drop down too close incase they spooked Sebastian. By the time they got to the front door Ominis was supporting more of his weight, and Diana was able to let go completely to push the door open.
Inside of the room was dark- much too dark for all the afternoon sun that should be pouring in through the windows. But there was no light to be found, and when they stepped in there was a wave of misery that threatened to swallow them. It made her stumble, but she felt a hand grab hers and saw Ominis looking much sturdier than he had just a moment ago.
"Its pitch black in here isn't it"
"How did you-"
"It's the after effects of dark magic. I've been in more than one place that felt like this, and it's always the same."
Diana lit her wand and the blind boy started his red blinking one. Both of them attempted to see through their own darkness, but he seemed to be faring better than her. Her light didn't make it even a step farther than her. It was like a wall of inky blackness- it reminded her of her trip to Azkaban. She wished she knew how to form a patronus. She let her friend lead, dropping her spell, but keeping her wand at the ready. She knew the space wasn't large, but in the darkness it felt like it could go on forever.
"I see him! He's on the ground just ahead." Ominis pulled her a little faster and her heart quickened in turn. When he stopped she dropped to the ground and felt around until she found his body- it was cold as ice.
"Sebastian!!" she whispered, voice caught in her throat. She moved her hands around to find his head. He was on his stomach so she placed her head on the upper part of his back and listened. She heard and felt his heart beat, but she didn't relax. It was there, but it was not strong.
"I'm not picking up any traces of magic on him, it's all just the darkness."
"Will you help me turn him over?" At her words he knelt down and the two of them carefully moved him to his back. He was heavy, body totally rigid as if he was..... Once on his back he continued to be still, Diana moved her hand around him trying to feel for anything abnormal.
"There's no wounds that I can feel, and everything about him seems to be in place."
"That's good at least. Stay here with him- I am going to check around the house to make sure we are alone."
When he walked away Diana felt the darkness even heavier around her. She was also getting colder as she knelt close to the other boy's body; it was like he was an ice chest, cooling everything around him. She felt again for his pulse, this time on his neck. It was beating, but very slowly. There was a desperateness about it; a signal to her that it wouldn't stay that way for long. She racked her brain on what she should do- should they go and get help? Could they drag him out of the house? She felt somehow that the house was not the problem though, and that it was the boy himself.
She felt helpless- in his state it felt like she would need a miracle to bring him out of it. A miracle or a crazy amount of magic. And here she was with all this magic and there was nothing she felt she could do.What was the point of all this power if she was powerless to it. She felt that familiar desperateness, one that brought her swarming thoughts to Isadora.
The witch had saved her father from darkness, could she save her friend too? Would he end up as a shell of his former self? Was that better than letting the darkness win? The power inside of her started to pulse- it was like lightning coursing through her. She knew she didn't have time to sit and debate the ethics about what she was about to do. She felt his pulse again, she swore it was even slower, and his body was cold enough now that it hurt her to keep her fingers on for too long.
She pushed her fears aside, she knew there was no way to come back from this- but really, it was a part of who she was. She focussed her magic to her hands, a heat pulsed in her body as she felt it make its way through her. She moved her hands down and placed them over his chest and tried to focus on him. Closing her eyes she willed her magic to see inside of him, trying to imitate what she had seen her predecessor do.
Then she felt it- whatever it was. It was dark and heavy and icey, she tried to reach out to grab it but it hurt. She grunted in pain- trying to keep her focus, blue sparks flared around her consciousness. She grabbed onto the darkness and started to pull. As she did so she noticed that there were other dark things attached to it, but they were different. Those other things weren't... evil- they were still heavy and shadowed, but she knew they were not the same. She pushed more magic towards them and focussed her attention, willing them to break free. She felt her heart pounding and sweat drip from her head, but it felt like it was happening miles away. She kept pushing, and after what felt like an eternity they fell away. She took the opportunity and grabbed the darkness with full force and pulled it from his body.
At the same time both Sebastian and Diana screamed. The mass of darkness ripped from his body and flew out of him. She knew as soon as it was out she needed to destroy it- that it would massacure her and her friends if she didn't. With another yell Diana instinctively sent a bolt out towards it, and in a mass of blue lightning the evil entity was gone. In the split second after it disintegrated, she saw Ominis running towards her, but he faded from view as she dropped down and everything again turned black.
