Ominis honestly couldn't remember the last time there were this many people here. His family was often at other parties and events, but never hosted their own. It was also strange to have furniture everywhere again- which made things all the more uncomfortable for him. His father insisted that he not show any weakness, thus he wasn't allowed to hold out his wand to see. So all he could do was stand there with his parents and brother and nod his greetings when he was introduced to another great witch or wizard.
The party had been going on for an hour already, he heard the clock chime seven across the room. Sebastian and Diana were supposed to leave for Diagon Alley at half past seven, and then make their way to the front gates of the estate.
Most people would have apperated to the gates, but neither of them had the ability yet. It wasn't too far from the Wizarding shopping district though, he had thought they would be here by now...
"Father, who is that girl who just walked in?" Marvolo asked the question with a disgusting tenor to his voice that made Ominis want to gag.
"Hm? I don't know, I don't recognize her. That boy she's with though, that's Ominis' friend isn't it." The blind boy perked up at this.
"Tilly!" his mother called out to the house elf who appeared with a crack "Over there are Ominis' guests, please make sure they make their way over to us. If I remember right his... friend didn't have the best social manners."
The house elf left without another word, presumably to go and obey orders. Ominis felt his heart quicken, but he kept his practiced stoic face. All they had to do now was say hello to his parents, and then he could go hide away with them until later in the evening.
"Tilly has brought the guest ma'am" the house elf said in her usual weak voice. He heard his mother snap and then there was a crack to signify that the elf was gone.
"Ah Mr. Sallow, we are glad that you could make it." His fathers voice sounded polite enough, even though he knew he had no liking for his friend. "When Ominis told us that your uncle had passed, we felt very compelled to invite you and your sister so your Holidays wouldn't be completely abysmal."
"So kind of you-" he heard a subdued cutting tone in his friend's voice. His father was blatantly rude, but he was glad Sebastian wasn't fighting back. "I am glad to have been invited back, and to get to bring my sister with me. This is Anne-"
"My dear you look lovely- like an ornate doll come to life." his mother cooed, and took him by surprise. His mother was often heard giving compliments to various people, but usually in an attempt to gain something. There was no reason to try to get on the good side of two "non prestigious" underage kids. Diana must actually just look extremely beautiful- which, really was not a surprise.
"Th-thank you, and thank you for inviting me. I'm glad I could finally come see where my friend of so many years grew up." Diana's voice was a little shaky at first, but she kept her cool as well.
"My dear brother should have invited you sooner, it's a pleasure to have a guest of your beauty in our home." Marvolo's words sounded sickly sweet, and it took all the energy Ominis had to keep composed.
"Ah yes, this is my eldest son- Marvolo." His father made the introduction, but his voice sounded a little wary.
"Pleasure to meet you." Diana said cooly, "And Ominis, it's very good to see you." She walked up to him, and through the cloud of perfume from the various party goers- he could smell oranges.
"I am glad that you could make it- both of you. Anne I'd love to be able to give you a tour of the house since it's your first time here. Father, may I be excused?"
