The first day of December brought with it the magic of snow; Diana watched it fall from her seat in the Library. She was working at a table on the second floor with her two Slytherin friends. She had some extra work to catch up on after missing a few classes, and they were helping her with the classes that they shared. She was currently supposed to be listening to Ominis go over his notes from History of magic, but she had gotten distracted by the winter visual outside.

"... I may be blind but I can still tell what you aren't listening- there's no point in me reading these out if you aren't going to pay attention."

"Ah, sorry Ominis. It started snowing outside and I got distracted-"

"It's snowing?!" Sebastian jumped up from his seat and moved over to the window "lets ditch this! I want to go out in the snow!!"

There was a round of shushing from other students studying near them, but it seemed the boy didn't hear them. He continued to look outside with childlike excitement.

"Do you like the snow that much?" Diana asked in a purposeful whisper.

"He's obsessed" Ominis answered for him. "I remember our first year when the first snow happened, he was screaming and running around like a lunatic. I didn't know him as well at that point and so I thought that something was seriously wrong. I was ready to run to get the nurse when Anne stopped me and said he does it every year. Something about the first snow being the best of the season-"

"It is the best!" the other boy shot out, again forgetting to lower his voice. A light smack from Diana and another barrage of shushing made him lower his voice though. "Everyone knows that the first snow has magical properties, that's why everything you make in it always comes out perfect."

"And where did you hear that"

"My Father taught me when I was really little, but I have tested it almost every year since then and it's never failed."

Diana looked over at the other boy, shaking his head- it seemed he had heard this before. She thought he likely also tried to convince him that it wasn't true, but she guessed that had failed.

She laughed to herself, it was a silly little moment they were in, but it filled her heart. This lighthearted conversation between the three of them is something she had been missing for a long time. Things finally felt like they were back to what they should be.

"Well I have no problem pausing to take a break outside- I don't have another class until after lunch anyway and I know you don't either Ominis. Although if I remember correctly, don't you have another class coming up soon Sebastian?"

"Oh yeah, field studies, actually I'm dropping that class."

"What??" she asked a little too loudly, but changed her voice quickly "Why??"

"I'm actually dropping a few of my classes, field studies, Alchemy, and a few of my electives. I mostly had taken them to keep myself busy and my thoughts away from... well it wasn't working anyway, and I was falling behind too. So I decided to drop them- now I can focus on the things I actually want to be doing."

"Finally," Ominis said while packing up his work, "that's the most sensible choice you've made all year." The other boy scoffed, but had a smile on all the same. Diana felt worried at first about him dropping classes, but it sounded like he knew what he was doing.

They all started to pack up their work- likely to the relief of the people trying to study around them. Together they headed from the workroom and towards the transfiguration courtyard. Sebastian was moving rather fast, and at first the other two tried to keep up, but eventually just let the distance between them increase. When they made it to the door outside, hearing cheers of excitement coming from the other side, Ominis quickly reached out for her hand and pulled her back.

"Hey Diana, wait a moment." She stopped and turned to face him.

"What's up?"

"We need to talk, alone- are you free tonight? Sebastian has a make-up practice for Imelda that she's demanding he attend so he won't walk in on us."

"Yeah I'm free, I was planning to sort out my lesson plan for my tutoring session tomorrow, but I can do it later."

"Great- meet me in the Undercroft after dinner okay?" She squeezed his hand in confirmation, then they let go and headed out to join their jubilant friend. Diana barely ducked out of the way just as a snowball whizzed past her head; Ominis unfortunately did not see it coming.
