It was a cold practice, but Sebastian was feeling good. Imelda had seemed to let go of his missing their last match, and was finally done giving him extra work to do. They had worked exceptionally hard and everyone was feeling great about how the next match would go after break. Things had seemingly gone so well that the Slytherin captain had even asked if he wanted to stay back to have a chat. He wasn't opposed to it, but he had promised Ominis at dinner that he would meet him and Diana in the undercroft once he was done. So he declined the offer, but alluded to him being available another time.
When he finally stepped through the doors to the secret room the air was definitely a bit more.... Chilly that he would have expected. He could see his two friends in the room, but there was something going on between them.
"Alright I turned down Imelda for this so you two better not go spoiling my mood."
The two of them flicked their heads over to him, looking startled at his presence. Somehow they were unaware he had come into the room- a feat almost impossible with how the gears sounded from this side. Their bodies were also facing away from one another so it didn't seem like they had been engrossed in conversation...
"How was practice?" Diana offered, sounding a little hesitant.
"Did you guys have a fight?" he asked, ignoring her questions. If there was something up he wanted it out and solved before any more problems arose between them.
"N-no we didn't..." she answered, not looking him in the eyes.
"Well something is up- Ominis did you do something stupid?"
No one answered- he was going to take that as a yes then. He walked closer to them and noticed that they both had rather pink faces.
"W-well we wanted to talk to you about something-" he held up a hand for her to stop.
"Okay either you guys settle what is wrong right now or I am not going to let you tell me whatever it is you need to. And Ominis didn't even half laugh earlier when he asked me to meet you guys and I asked if we were breaking up- so I know whatever it is, is serious."
"Ah we- we don't have to talk about anything now-" she was cut off again, but this time it was by Ominis.
"No he's right-" he cleared his throat, sounding a little hoarse. "I need to apologize for what happened earlier-" he cleared his throat again.
Sebastian watched his friend, who almost always was in regal composure, who now looked like he was fighting for his life. What in the world had happened??
"Ominis it's really okay, it was just an accident." Her eyes darted quickly from the blind boy to him and back. She really seemed like she didn't want to talk about it with him there- and that made him want to know what happened even more.
"Well I'm sticking to my word, either you guys work it out or I am out of here." He hoped the ultimatum would pressure one of them to just spill it. It wasn't a very frequent occurrence that these two had issues together. Finally, something was not his own fault.
"Y-yes, you're right- it was all an accident. So are um are we okay?" His face got a little dark at this.
"I'm okay- are you okay?"
The blond boy nodded his head, although he still looked a little bit perplexed on the matter. Sebastian just huffed, glad that things had gotten resolved, but feeling a bit left out. The implications were almost too much to handle, but he knew they would stay implications.
"You guys are no fun. Anyway let's get on with this- I'm starting to get dizzy from inhaling my own fumes." He decided to move them out of the awkwardness. He really did want to know, but he was also working on being a better friend.
With the awkwardness dissipated, the two started into their reason for asking him there. They told him about the animals in the Gaunt manor and what was being done to them. Ominis talked about his limitations in being able to set them free, and Diana expressed her desire to help them as well.
It didn't feel very surprising to him, he had learned that last year she went trasping around the valley taking out all every poacher camp she stumbled upon. He was confused for a little bit as to why they had to meet with him to discuss this, but eventually they also made their need for his help clear.
"So let me make sure I understand it all- I show up to the front gates of your house as a guest for Christmas Eve. Diana is secretly also with me, and once I make it in she sneaks behind the house to where the animals are held. She collects the animals while I charm and distract your family from inside. Then once she is done, I act as if I have some reason to leave, and the two of us escape together. Did I get it all?"
"Yes I think so," the girl answered. She seemed to be vibrating with excitement about it all.
"The charming and distracting may be more complicated than that though. Marvolo can sense trouble from miles away- that way he can go to it and make whatever it is worse. We have to make sure he stays with us the whole time." The other boy sounded much more serious.
"Yes yes, I understand. And if all else fails I just knock him out and just never get invited back to your place ever again. There is something else I am wondering about though."
Both of them perked up like puppies at his words- maybe nervous to hear there was a flaw in their plan.
"You say you want to get these animals out- but what are you going to do with them after? Just set them free? I mean dying in freedom would be better than captivity, but it sounds like they may need care."
"Ah that's right..." Ominis seemed rather perplexed by his questions. It seems that he hadn't thought it through either. "Diana, where exactly are you going to put these animals once they are out?"
They turned again to her and he watched as a smile grew across her face.
"I think it's about time I show you guys my secret room."
