Poppy was on the search for her friend this Saturday morning. It had been a very busy week, and outside of their one class and occasionally meals, she had barely gotten to see her. She had plans later in the day to help Lucan with the cross wands preparations, but before then she wanted to be with Diana.
As soon as she got up she went to the older girls' dorm, but she was already awake and gone. Next she swept around the common room, but she wasn't there either. Assuming then that she headed to breakfast she started making her way there. It was a little surprising that her friend was up this early on a weekend, she tended to sleep in on her days off.
The great hall wasn't as crowded yet; tables were just about half way full, making it easy to spot Diana on her table. Her hair was a dull red and seemed extra frizzy today, probably from all the rain they had this week. It reminded her of a low burning flame, which was pretty fitting for her she thought. Poppy happily skipped over to her and sat down with such a force it bumped her friend a little.
"Ah you scared me!"
The younger girl chuckled, she got what she intended.
"You're up early today, I thought I would need to wake you up to get to spend some time with you today, but you beat me to it." She scooted herself away from her friend to give her space back.
"Oh yeah I haven't seen you much this week, it's been crazy. I haven't minded too much though, being busy, other than missing you. I think it made time go by a lot faster."
Poppy stared at Diana, she seemed to be in the best mood she'd see her in, in weeks. She always tried to put on a smile, but there was a cloud of gloominess that had been constant for a while. There didn't seem to be anything to get her away from it, until now apparently. She didn't know what it was, but she was glad for whatever it may be.
"I don't know what you have planned today, I'm sure you'll be with Lucan for some of the weekend, but do you want to study with me this morning? I'm trying to get all my work done by the afternoon, but I'd like to be with you if you're not already busy."
Diana passed her a plate, and she took it willingly. She had some questions about what her friend mentioned, but it looked like she was almost done eating, she had better hurry so she didn't make her wait. She plopped some oatmeal on and started eating; taking a few bites before she answered.
"Yeah that sounds great, we can go over our essays on Fwoopers together. But um Diana I am curious, do you have plans later today? Why are you working on everything this morning?"
"Oh yeah, Garreth invited me to go to Hogsmeade with him. I'm meeting him later today."
Her spoon was halfway to her mouth when she froze, letting the porridge slip back down. Had she heard her friend right? No she must have misheard, she was way too nonchalant about it. Nonetheless though...
"Um, did you say you were going to go out with Garreth Weasley?" she questioned hesitantly, putting her spoon down this time.
"Yeah, we set it up earlier this week; I've been really looking forward to it."
"And.... is this a date?"
"Yeah that's what he said." Diana stopped eating now, confused by all the questions and turning to her. "Why? Is something wrong?"
"Diana, you mean to tell me that later today you are going on your first date? With Garreth Weasley??"
Her face started to get pink and she looked a little flustered; "Yes... I don't understand what the big deal is."
"You don't understand- Diana! This is your first date ever! That's a huge deal! I can't believe you are just now telling me!" She jumped up and grabbed her friend's hand, pulling her off her seat "come on we need to start getting you ready!"
"But it's not until this afternoon!" she countered, but followed the pulls obediently "why do I need to start getting ready now?"
"Diana, you are one of the most intelligent people that I know, but you have lots to learn about dating. And we need some reinforcements- let's go meet your roommates! And where is Natty??"
Poppy was so excited, she was now racing around the great hall, practically dragging the clueless girl around. Studying could definitely wait until tomorrow, they had much too much work to do!
