"Are you sure you've got everything?" Diana looked the Slytherin over for the tenth time.
"For the last time- yes. I'm not the one doing the hard stuff anyway, all I have to do is look pretty."
Although she knew Sebastian was teasing, he did look very nice. He was wearing a suit; brown with a dark green vest. He didn't wear a tie, but the whole thing looked very fitting for him. He said it was his dad's old suit, but it fit him very well. He must be the same size that his dad was. She thought it made him look a lot older, even though he still had a very boyish face.
Ominis had secured the invitation for Sebastian to come to his home for New Years Eve. The idea had actually sparked something more in the Gaunt home, and they had decided to throw their own party.
When he had written to tell them about the change, he expressed his surprise saying that his family hadn't hosted any gathering at his home for years. Apparently though they needed to keep up appearances because some rumors had been spreading. So when Ominis had asked to invite his friend for the Holiday they decided they'd squash the rumors and send out invitations to all the big names in London.
The change in plans made Diana nervous, but Ominis was convinced that it would probably make things easier in the long run. More people meant more cover, and with guests coming and going she would be able to sneak out much easier. He also said that there would be some big moment during the event that would gather everyone to one place, allowing her time to do what she needed to do.
She felt like all of those things were fine; what really made her nervous was that she would also be a guest at the party. With so many people present she wouldn't be able to sneak around like they had originally planned. Now she had to dress the part and also get out unseen with the animals.
The plan was for her to be Anne, something she was hesitant to do. Ominis wrote that if they knew who she was it was likely she would receive a lot of attention throughout the night- which would make sneaking off more difficult. If she pretended to be the other Sallows twin, she would just be written off as a nobody.
"Are you sure Anne wont be upset if I pretend to be her? I'm afraid if something goes wrong she is going to have her name dragged by a lot of powerful wizards."
"Again, yes- she will be fine with it. Causing harm to the Gaunt family would be enough to justify it for her; she hates all they did to Ominis. But also knowing you are doing it to save a bunch of animals, well I would guess if they came knocking at her door she'd readily take the blame, probably laugh in their faces for good measure too."
Diana bit at the skin of her knuckles, trying to allow his words to ease her mind. She had been feeling so sure about everything until it was decided she'd no longer be invisible. Now she felt like there were too many things that she could do wrong.
"Relax, would you," he came up to her and put his hands on her shoulders. She stiffened, the gesture not at all helping her relax "No one there will have met Anne before so no one will be any wiser. Honestly I like this plan better than the original anyway, this way we can stick together for the night."
She nodded her head, and when he let go she finally did relax some. Things would work out- and in the worst case scenario, she wouldn't be able to get the animals out... but at least nothing else could happen.
"Now you need to go get changed. Your hair looks great, but it took you two bloody hours- if it takes you that long to get dressed we may miss the whole party."
"Ah you're right-" she said as she turned to go change.
It had taken her a very long time to do her hair. One of her roommates had given her a hair potion as a gift before break. The potion label said it tamed curls. Her friend had intended her to use it for the ball, but she figured now would be a good time as well.
