"Ugh they're taking forever" Sebastian wined beside him.

"We've been here for two minutes, get a grip."

They had barely made it up to the grand stairs landing where they had promised Diana they would meet her. They had gotten ready in their respective common rooms, but she had asked that they meet before everyone went in. Both of them had agreed- she seemed pretty insistent and nervous about the whole thing.

Both the boys had gotten ready relatively quickly. Sebastian had said he was wearing the same suit that he wore to the Gaunt party; thankfully nothing had happened to it during the event. Ominis also wore his same outfit, but this time he chose a necktie rather than a bowtie. Neither boy had a date so there wasn't much need to look the part, but both seemed to put forth some extra effort nonetheless.

"Wait, why are we meeting up here anyway? The Hufflepuff common room is three levels below us and the dance is just down the way." Before Ominis could answer another voice cut in.

"Because I wanted us to have a dramatic entrance!" He heard the click of heels as Poppy made her way towards them.

"Wow, aren't you quite the Hufflepuff- did you also get Lucan to dress in yellow?"

"What he means to say is that he thinks you look great," Ominis said towards the girl, elbowing his friend in the side for good measure. "Where's Diana?"

"Why thank you Sebastian." She said curtly, and then turned her voice towards Ominis "And she's just around the corner. She was stopped by that Ravenclaw Seeker just a minute ago, she told me to go ahead so we didn't keep you guys waiting."

"Ugh, Larson, what did he want?" He heard Sebastian's voice laced with malice.

"Not sure. We just happened to cross paths and he asked to talk. I'm going to guess he's feeling a little devastated that she's not his date."

"Can you imagine that? I mean Weasley is not my favorite, but I would pick him over that prick a hundred times over." Sebastian was very open with his hate for the other student.

"Hey sorry to keep you guys waiting-" He had heard the clacking of another set of heels before he heard her voice. As she got closer Ominis smelt oranges wrapped through his senses. He breathed in and gave an involuntary sigh.

"Bloody hell!! You look amazing!" He heard Sebastian run up towards the girl, clearing the distance in no time at all.

Poppy giggled beside Ominis as they listened to the other Slytherin boy rain down compliments on the girl. He seemed to have a limitless amount of words to share about how she looked- and from them all she sounded like she was stunning. Ominis tried to keep the smile on his face, but he was currently feeling a little bit upset that he was born with his impairment.

He walked towards his two friends, finding Sebastian's shoulder and giving it a squeeze to try to rein him in. Even without sight he could tell that Diana was feeling embarrassed under his praising gaze. She probably deserved every word, but she would never want to hear it.

"Glad you could join us- I hear you look lovely."

"Thank you Ominis, you look really nice as well. I like your tie even better this time." He unconsciously reached up and felt his silk tie, glad he had made the swap.

"It's perfect actually-" he heard her shuffle with something in her hands. "I got you two these, and if you had been wearing a bowtie it wouldn't have worked out well."

She handed something over to Sebastian first, and then reached out to Ominis' hands and placed a small box in them. He waited as he heard his friend open his gift.

"Is this a snake?? It's great! And how did you know silver was my color?"

Diana chuckled "Silver is a Slytherin color, and I'm glad you like it. Do you need any help clipping it on your tie?"

"No- but I want you to do it anyway." Ominis snorted at the cheeky comment, but she just chuckled again and seemingly did the task. He assumed the gift was a tie clip of some sort, which made his focus move over to his own gift.

He carefully opened the lid, placing it underneath the box. Then he lifted the soft fabric that covered the small metallic piece within. He felt small circles connected with thin lines. Behind the cluster of circles was a larger clasp- and gauging from the other gift he assumed this too was a tie clip.

"Can you tell what it is?" He could hear the excitement in her voice and he knew right away what she had given him. He ran his fingers over the pattern again just to be sure.

"Did you turn Felis into a tie pin?" He smiled as she giggled happily.

"Yes! Do you like it?" It was his turn to chuckle now.

"Yes I do- thank you. Will you help me put it on?"

She reached out and took the clip from him. He tried to stand up straight as she reached out and pulled his tie from his vest. The pull around his neck sent a shiver through his body and his face felt a little warm as unwanted thoughts tried to surface in his mind.

She quickly finished her task, and moved in closer to place his tie back. As she did so he noticed that along with oranges there was a slight scent of mallowsweet mixed in. They two smells went well together- and he was surprised he had never noticed it before. She finished the task, rousing him from his thoughts as she brushed out the sides of his coat to make sure everything was back in place.

"Well, how do we look?" Sebastian leaned in towards him, wrapping his arm around his shoulder. . Diana giggled again, telling them they looked great. Then Ominis heard Poppy make her way back towards them.

"We better get going- our dates are going to think we stood them up."

"Oh right!" he heard Diana move towards the other girl, their heels clacking together. The boys also turned to follow suit.

"What did Larson want?" Poppy asked, and Ominis heard Sebastian pick up his pace a little.

"Oh he just told me that I looked nice and asked if I would save him a dance."

"Does he not have a date??"

"That's what I asked, but he said there's usually a song where you dance with someone else in the room-"

Ominis pulled on Sebastian's arm, stopping his pursuit before he could move in anymore. The Slytherin boy had been doing a great job keeping his boundaries he set with their friend, but Ominis could sense that he was feeling a little bit too heated.

"You go ahead, we will meet you guys down there-" he then pulled Sebastian by the arm away- deciding he would need a talking to before the dance even started.

After the bull had been calmed down they went towards the stairs, where Sebastian said he could see Diana meeting up with Garreth down at the doors. They headed down when his friend leaned over and whispered;

"I don't like the way he's looking at her."

"Who? Weasley? How is he looking at her?"

"Like he wants to eat her..."

There didn't need to be any other words shared. Both boys picked up their pace to intervene on their date. Ominis felt a sense of urgency that was a little confusing to him. He had just lectured Sebastian about giving Diana her space during the dance, and then immediately turned around to do the opposite.

"Evening you two," Sebastian said, moving towards the pair.
