"Ominis! Hey!" Poppy's voice came from the great hall as he made his way to breakfast. He paused as she ran over to him, slightly out of breath.
"Professor Weasley told me that Diana is finally getting to leave the hospital!"
"Oh, that's great- when will that be?" He questioned.
"She said sometime this morning, Natty went over there to wait for her after I let her know."
Ominis nodded and thanked her for the news. As he heard her leave, he stood- deciding what he was going to do. He didn't want her to feel overwhelmed with too many people so he thought of just leaving her to be with the Gryffindor girl. Besides, he still had yet to talk with her about... everything... and didn't want to make her uncomfortable in front of anyone. Ominis hoped that he wouldn't make her feel uneasy when they did talk...
He decided that maybe he would just wait for her at her common room, but at that moment he felt Sebastian race past him- totally unaware of his presence. He felt Sebastian's aura through his still outstretched wand, and thought maybe he would try to stop, but he just passed by. He felt instinctively that his friend had the same idea of him and would be found near her common room waiting for her return.
He didn't have to travel far before he heard whispers about Sallows staking claim by the Hufflepuff common room entrance. With a sigh, Ominis turned around and headed back. He still wasn't talking to the boy, and besides, what he wanted was to not overwhelm Diana and if both boys were waiting together he may not accomplish that.
He decided to head back to breakfast, and then to the undercroft. He had no more classes and nothing else to do, and so there he sat into the afternoon. He tried to think through what he wanted to say to Diana, for what felt like a hundredth time, but still felt unsure. It was all confusing, and he didn't want her to feel that her shield she placed in-front of herself was going to be driven down by him. After everything they had gone through this far, and all she had done on her own; he just wanted to make sure she was okay.
He was still sitting there, mulling over his thoughts on a rickety chair in the far corner of the room when he heard the gears turning on the door. He paused as he heard two sets of footsteps come in, and Sebastian cast a spell to light up the room. He was going to make himself known to them, but the other Slytherin immediately went into a half-assed apology.
Ominis sat frozen, struck silent due to the awkwardness of having to overhear this private conversation, and also out of annoyance. Maybe Sebastian believed his own words, but to his well trained ears they sounded hollow. Empty as all the other promises he had made them.
Diana's hesitant response made the atmosphere feel solemn, but Sebastian's idiotic counter had him fiery once again. He wasn't even listening to her, he didn't care how she was feeling. It seemed to Ominis that all his friend cared about was that the girl chose to stay by his side. And from the sound of it, it seems he got what he wanted.
Feeling disgusted, he listened to their goodbyes, and the boy left. He knew it was unlikely for her to be able to see him from where she was now, and he thought it might be best to just stay silent, let her have her moment "alone." He'd wait for her to leave, and only after would he make his way out. But he scrapped that plan when he heard her drop to the ground and start to quietly cry- he knew he couldn't let her be.
Not sure what else to do, he let out a cough, and heard her jump up with insane speed.
"It was not all my intention to overhear that conversation... I didn't realize you two would come here to talk.."
He got up, hands held in mock surrender. He heard her groan and sink back to the floor as he walked over to her. He pulled out his wand to find her up against a wall, body pulled tight around herself. He felt along the wall and slid down next to her, the two of them just sitting in silence.
