Chapter 24: MC- not dating pt. 1

"Poppy!" Diana jumped up and ran over to her friend. The younger girl beamed at her and wrapped her in a huge hug. She stiffened at the contact, but she was too happy to feel too uncomfortable with it. When she let go, she plopped down across from where she and Ominis were sitting.

"I've missed you so much! How are you? I mean I know we wrote and you told me then, but I want to know- really- how are you?"

Diana smiled "I'm doing good, better now that I am with more of my friends again. How are you doing?"

"Oh I am doing excellent. Not only did I get permission to bring my pet Knarl, Winnie, to school with me, but I passed Lucan on the way here and he asked if I wanted to sit with him."

"Lucan? Oh I forgot you two were the same year- I didn't really you were close. That's really nice of him. How is he doing? Did you pass sitting with him because of us?"

"Don't worry I said I'd go over later after I talked with you for a bit. And you're right, we weren't close, I mean I don't think I talked with him at all until he asked me one day after classes at the end of last year how you were doing. We wrote to each other this summer and got closer."

"So are you two going out now?" Ominis asked.

Diana turned to him confused. "What do you mean they are going out?"

"Well he asked to sit with her and they wrote during the summer- obviously he likes her."

"What??? That doesn't make any sense."

The blind boy laughed a little "How does it not? He seemed to want to get to know her better and then he wanted to spend time with her- how else would he let her know he likes her?

"But we wrote to each other all summer, and I asked to sit with you on the train too!"

Ominis' face went a little pink and Diana heard the other girl giggle across from her. She turned from the boy and looked to her friend to explain.

"Ha he is right, I do like Lucan and I think he likes me too, at least that's what it seemed like to me. It started out with him asking about what I knew about defensive plants and animals, and it may have turned into something more. I'll tell you more about it tonight." Poppy winked, "And it seems like maybe you might have something to talk about as well."

Diana tilted her head quizzically? What did Poppy think she needed to talk about? Was there something about Lucan that she wanted to know? They were friends, but not that close. She sat for a moment, not being able to read anything from her friend's face.

Next to her Ominis sighed "she thinks because of everything you admitted and because I was touching your face when she came in that we are dating."

Diana whipped around to look at him, and then back around to Poppy. Her face felt like it was on fire as the implication finally hit her.

"N-no we, we are not-" her words caught in her mouth, totally incapable of rectifying this awkward situation she found herself in. Poppy just giggled, watching her gape in horror.

"Diana I know! I am just teasing you! I think I know you better than to assume something like that. Although I would like to know what it was you guys were actually doing."

"I asked if I could see her face, so she let me see with the only sense available."

"Hmmm makes sense" she placed her fingers on her chin in thought "you know to be fair though, that was the only time I have ever seen someone touch Diana without looking like she had been petrified."

Diana groaned and placed her face in her hands, and Poppy giggled herself silly at her response. She even heard Ominis laugh quietly to himself, relaxing back on his seat. She was glad at least that Sebastian wasn't here, otherwise she felt she may die from embarrassment at the comments he would have made.
