Things had been tense with Ominis at first, but she was glad for it. It seemed like he had been holding onto those feelings this whole time. If he hadn't let them out when they talked, they probably would have bubbled over in a much less productive way. So even though it was kind of uncomfortable, she was okay to go through it if it meant things between them were good.
The rest of their time together was spent mapping out their new plan. The blind boy told her about his idea to use their friend as her cover. If the Gaunts were expecting company, it would be normal for their security to be breached as Sebastian made his way to their home.
It was easy enough to come up with an excuse for him to walk in through the front gates, and Diana could easily slip in behind him. He was also insistent that it would be best for him to be there so she could have backup in case something went wrong- Ominis could deter his family's attention and she could make an escape back out with Sebastian.
With their plans made, they went into some of the implications that the occurrence at Feldcroft made on her research for Anne. During this time they were able to talk more in depth about what had happened. She shared her thoughts on what she suspected were the similarities and differences between the two cases. Ominis was also able to ask more questions about what happened, and made some great insights on their potential impacts.
It was helpful to get to share her thoughts and ideas with someone- much better than stewing about them in her bed at night. She couldn't help but feel though that most of this conversation was just in avoidance to the one thing they had not talked about yet- how they were going to bring this up with Sebastian.
Adding their friend into the mix could complicate things if, in the end, they weren't able to help Anne. Could the thought of losing his sister again spiral him into the abysmal darkness he spent the past year in? They needed to talk about it, but it seemed like neither was willing to bring it up. It definitely was much easier to talk about her magic and the theoretical help it could provide.
The topic was not brought up that night though, because it was their luck (maybe good or maybe bad) that Sebastian came sauntering in right as their conversation was dying down. He came in, in a huff- complaining about all the drills Imelda had made him do to make up for skipping their last game. He seemed too tired to really focus on anything, so they decided, unspoken, that they would not ask him today.
They all left together, Diana saying goodbye as they headed to their separate houses. She paused as she thought about making her way to the Keepers, but decided against it. She still needed to plan her lesson for tutoring tomorrow, and she was also still feeling a bit wary of facing the guardians. So she put it off for another day, and headed down towards the kitchens where the large barrel entrance was.
"Diana!" She turned to face the young girl calling her name as she entered her common room. She smiled as Mabel made her way over, followed by the other Hufflepuffs she taught. "Are we having class tomorrow?"
"Yup! The nurse cleared it with Hecat and she said I was good to go! I was actually on my way to go prepare for it right now." The group ensued into cheers, drawing the eyes of everyone else nearby. She felt her face get a little warm from embarrassment, but she smiled just the same. She was really glad they enjoyed learning from her, even more so because she loved teaching them.
She said goodbye and goodnight to the group and headed towards her dorm room. If she stayed with them any longer she knew she wouldn't leave in time to get any work done. She paused quickly though and popped first into Poppy's room, knocking before checking inside. The room was empty so she left and went to her own. She pulled out her materials and spread them on her bed, looking over the notes she had made last lesson. She hadn't been at it very long when her friend busted through the door making Diana jump.
"You are never going to guess what just happened!!" she said dreamily, practically dancing over to her bed.
"I feel like maybe it has something to do with a certain Gryffindor boy" Diana smiled at her
Poppy squealed and did a little hop of excitement "AHH I still can't believe it!!"
"Poppy! What happened??"
Another squeal "He kissed me!!!!" The girl flopped onto her bed and sent her legs kicking up above her. She looked positively giddy and Diana couldn't help but feel it. To be honest, she didn't truly understand the sentiment, but she could tell that this was a big deal to her friend so therefore it was a big deal to her.
"Wow Poppy!! I'm erm so happy for you!"
Her friend giggled at her. "Ha, I knew you would be awkward about it"
"Ah I know, I'm not good with this stuff. But I love to see you so happy- and I want to hear all about it!"
"Hehe, I knew you would. And I like your awkwardness, it's quite adorable actually. But am I interrupting you?" She asked as she sat up, seemingly noticing the pages laid out for the first time. Diana shook her head though.
"This-" she gestured to the papers "Can wait until tomorrow morning. Right now I want to hear about how Lucan somehow got up the nerve to kiss you. I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff, but even I know he waited a really long time."
She giggled again, starting off her story that sounded quite magical the way she told it. They were definitely in for a late night, but she didn't mind. Sure waking up early to plan her lesson would be a pain, but moments like these with her friend was worth any price.
