"I cannot believe you are ditching me for a date- what am I supposed to do while you're gone?"
Leander crossed his arms as he followed Garreth across the courtyard. He had been sulking all morning about being left behind. Garreth just rolled his eyes at him.
"You ditch me every weekend to go trasping after Imelda, how is this any different?"
"The difference is-" his friend said in a haughty tone "-you are going to actually spend time with a girl whereas I usually get ignored. Honestly though I can't believe you are making it out on a date before I do, it's not fair."
He scoffed at that, mostly light heartedly. Leander could be a pain sometimes, but they had stuck together the last six years so he was used to it. He knew that his friend wasn't really upset with him for going on the date, just annoyed at himself for not having any luck with girls. Although up until today Garreth would have felt the same way.
He was immensely excited for today- more excited than he had been about anything in a long time. And really that was saying something, because he had made some potion discoveries that were pretty thrilling... at least to him they were. But getting to go out with Diana, well that was in a whole different wheel house. He felt like he had been drunk on Felix Felicis ever since she had agreed to it. Everything was going great, and he couldn't be happier. At least, that's what he thought- until he saw her walking out of the castle towards him.
He and Leander both stopped dead in their tracks, not being able to stop themselves from absolutely gawking at her. She was already beautiful; her brown red hair was usually wavy and free- it was a bit chaotic but it worked really well for her. She had soft green eyes and a beautiful face, made even more so every time she smiled. She had an athletic build, with strong shoulders and arms, but over the summer the straight lines of muscles changed more to curves. During school she wore her uniform, which fit her well, especially when it was warmer and she rolled up her sleeves and let her vest hang open. Today though- everything that she was, was made even better.
She was wearing a white blouse that was much tighter than the collared shirts that were a part of school attire. The sleeves billowed out a little and ended at her elbows. She was also wearing a dark red skirt, much closer to the Gryffindor colors than her usual yellow- and he thought that she would have made an excellent Lion. Her hair was tied half up in some sort of braid, with the rest pushed behind her. She looks radiant, stunning, alluring- way too good to just be going out with him!
"Hey how about you sit this one out and I can take your place hm?" Leander leaned over and whispered in his ear. This snapped him out of his daze; finally tearing his gaze from her, and giving his friend a shove.
Diana trotted up to them and gave him a smile that made his heart flip in his chest.
"Hello Garreth, thanks again for inviting me out today." She turned to the other boy, "Are you coming with us, Leander?"
"He is absolutely not" he responded before his friend could say anything "he just wanted to say hello and now he is going." He gave him another huge shove, pushing him away before he could even say hello. Thankfully he took the hint, gave a wave and headed back towards the castle.
"Oh that's good." she replied matter of factly as she waved back at him.
"Is it?"
"Yeah, I thought this was a date. I would have been totally mistaken if he had joined us- and that would have been embarrassing."
If his heart was doing flips before, it was nothing compared to this. He was nervous that maybe she wouldn't think it was a date; he had mentioned it at the end, but he wasn't specific when he asked her. But to hear her call it a date and to think she may have been upset if it hadn't been... if the day ended right in that moment he would have been content.
"Well, shall we go then?" He stretched out his arm for her to take, but then noticed she was carrying a cloak on her arm. "Are you not cold?"
"Oh I am!" As if on cue she started to put the covering over her "Poppy made me promise that I wouldn't put it on until after we started walking together. I don't really know why, but I told her I would."
Garreth said a silent prayer in thanks for that brilliant girl- making a mental note to thank her for her foresight.
