Saturday evening Imelda posted the results of the tryouts, and Ominis heard his friend cheer when he went to check the board. He was glad he had gotten the spot he wanted, but he was surprised that he would even have time to practice with his schedule. On top of most of the classes they shared together, Sebastian had also gone out of his way to fill his schedule almost to the brim. He didn't have the qualification for some of NEWT classes, but had signed up for almost all the other ones he could. He was taking a plethora of electives like field studies and Alchemy, and would take the apparition class in the spring as well.
"How exactly do you plan to get all your work done on top of the rigorous training I've heard Imedla go on and on about?" Omins asked his friend as he crashed down on the sofa next to him.
"I've got time. Anyway, where do you think Diana is? I want to tell her the news."
"Hm, I think you should give her some space."
"What?? Why??"
Omins raised his eyebrows at his friend, "You can't seriously act like you don't know."
"Ugh she's not still on about that kiss is she? She was fine when we were studying in the undercroft together."
"If by fine you mean she spent the whole time scooting slowly away from you every time you moved closer to her and getting nothing done, then sure everything is good now."
Sebastian didn't answer. Ominis realized that he had in fact not noticed what Diana was doing that afternoon together. He knew he must be oblivious otherwise he would have cracked more than one joke about it. But no, Ominis had heard Diana slowly scoot herself farther from him, and then sigh everytime Sebsatian absentmindedly noticed she wasn't close anymore and moved to her. They had spent the whole afternoon in the tedious game, and he himself had spent the time trying to ignore them- not wanting to get involved.
"Well- I think she's just going to have to get over it." And with that the boy stood and left for what Ominis assumed was the Hufflepuff common room. He called after him, but didn't get a response. He still didn't want to be involved. He sank down in his seat with a sigh, not noticing someone else had taken his friend's seat.
"Is he going to go see her?" Imelda asked
He jumped, but once he realized who it was he straightened himself back up.
"If you're talking about Diana, I suppose he is."
"Are they a thing or something? I wouldn't have tried to start something with him if I had known."
He gave a subdued chuckle in response, "No they are definitely not together, you don't have to worry about."
"Then why did she freak out when she saw us?" She asked him, sounding annoyed about the memory.
"She- she's just awkward about those types of things. I think she saw you two and didn't know what to do. And to add, I know she feels terrible about interrupting, so don't go making her feel worse about it."
"Is she some sort of moralist or something?"
"No" Ominis sighed. "I mean she can barely stand it when someone taps her on the shoulder; she doesn't like to be touched. I assume watching others feels about the same to her."
The girl hummed in thought, "maybe she just needs some more exposure.... you could help her out with that."
He scoffed at her suggestive suggestion "Goodbye Imelda." Waving his hand at her to leave.
She huffed, but got up just the same. When she left he sunk back down, pinching the bridge of his nose and clenching his face. This day was giving him a headache. If this is what things were going to be like this year he didn't know if he was going to make it.
