Ashes Blown Away

Horror struck you, not because your allies were surroundeds by Pacifistas nor the chaos around the battlefield. The reason the world just crumbled under your feet was because a man you considered so close as an older brother had stabbed his sword right threw your father’s chest “ SQUARD WAHT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!” you screamed despair setting heavy down on your chest. Squardo screamed some nonsense about Whitebeard betraying them “( Y/N)! THE OLD MAN WILL BE FINE! ACE COMES FIRST!” yelled Luffy seeing your hesitation to move forward, gritting your teeth you lowered your head and moved forward under your captain’s orders.

Whitebeared had joined the battle and your allies never thought that the Yonko betrayed them, the Marines began to execute the plan you had heard from the Den-den mushi, they rose up a metal barrier but it appeared they had their difficulties “ Mufufu guess who!?” chuckled a voice and your eyes widen as your blades clashed with strings “ Ah to think that I would get to see you so soon after our last meeting. Should we slip away from all this mess?” asked Donflamingo licking his lips “ You’re free to slip on the ice and crack your skull open.” you spat and the man laughed “ I liked your meek self but how much I missed when you’re about to bite my head off.” he chuckled.

A sandy wall appeared between the two of you, Crocodile held you behind you “ Look at the two of you being so chummy, let me into it too. All three of us should have fun together.” laughed the blond man. Your eyes widen as the soldiers in the platform raised their blades ready to execute Ace, the guards fell as blood flew from their now slashed chests “ Croc you bastard, have you turned against us and went to Whitebeard’s side?” asked Donflamingo and the ex Shichibukai glared at him “ I’m not on anybodies side.” he spat and softly pushed you forward.

Chaos continued, Marco headed for Ace only to be punched away by Garp and Luffy had fallen from his injuries while the 3 Admirals fought with Whitebeard and the top division captains. You couldn’t do this but you had to “ They’re too persistence.” you spat as new guards stepped on the platform ready to take Ace’s life “ STOOOOPPPPPP!” screamed Luffy and your eyes widen at the amount of Haki the boy released knocking Marine after Marine unconscious.

With the numbers of the enemy reduced your allies found knew courage, Inazuma cut a part of the ground and morphed it into a stair “ GO STRAWHAT LUFFY!” he yelled, Luffy run forward and you were about to go after him when a gauntlet aimed for your head. You blocked it throwing the person back “ What are you doing?” you asked seeing the familiar tanned skinned boy “ Stoping you. I’m sorry, this isn’t how I wanted us to reunite.” sighed out Matias tears threatening to spill from his eyes. You shook your head “ Leave, leave. D-don’t….I can’t hurt you but I can’t let Ace die….please.” you said your plea coming out as a whisper.

Matias shook his head “ It’s a lost cause, so just give up now and we can just be together again like old times.” he said and you run your hand down your face “ I’m sorry Matias.” you said and dashed forward “ Same here.” he mumbled blocking the back of your blades with his gauntlet. You shook your head and pressed a part in the handles of your blades, his eyes widen as he was blasted away ‘ this was for the best.’ you thought whipign the tears from your eyes ‘ Please don’t come back.’ you thought defeating another Marine soldier.

“ I thought you would be happier to see me.” said a familiar voice as warmth enveloped you “ Ace!” you breathed out and the boy smiled “ FIRE FIST ACE HAS BEEN FREED!” announced the Marines and your allies cheered. You smacked the freckled boy before grabbing his face and smashing your lips against his “ I swear you pull some shit like that again I’m going to kill you.” you breathed out and the boy looked at you in a stupor “ If I get a kiss like that it’s tempting.” he mumbled.

Luffy jumped in between the two of you wrapping his arms around you “ Let’s go! Let’s go! We got to go!” he cheered as you fought your way back to the sea. Squardo came on top a supporting ship but was stopped by Whitebeard “ There is no reason for you to stay here. This is my final order, listen well Whitebeard pirates.” breathed out the old man struggling to speak and much like your old crew mates you panicked asking for answers “ YOU WILL ALL PART WITH ME HERE! YOU WILL ALL LIVE AND RETURN SAFELY TO THE NEW WORLD!” he ordered and you gritted your teeth “ NO! WHAT ARE YOU SAYING OYAJI!?” you yelled as the man raised his arm “ THE TIMES HAVE PASSED ME BY! THERE IS NO SHIP TO TAKE ME TO THIS NEW AGE!” he announced smashing his fist into the air and making the already destroyed Marine Ford tremble.

You grabbed the male but the arm “ Don’t!” you said as he had stopped to listen at the Admiral “ He’s trying to rile you up, everyone in the world knows Oyaji’s value. I don’t want to either but we have to leave it.” you said trying to pull him along “ How can you say that?” he mumbled brushing your hold away ‘ No, don’t if you go.’ you thought trying to reach him as he sprinted forward, fist ablaze. You were blown back as the two heat users clashed “ NO!” you screamed as Ace rolled on the ground holding his injured arm, Aikanu loomed over him and your eyes widen, your whole body screaming in alarm as the older man moved his hateful gaze away from him.

Just like when you protected Matias you dove without thinking, coating your body in Haki you wrapped your arms around your captain and waited for the attack, but it never came. You racked your eyes open, even if Luffy was safe in this moment it felt like you had lost everything, Ace’s body twitched as Aikanu pulled his burning fist out of the boy’s empaled torso, blood flowed on the ground in a small stream and you stretched your arms forward to catch him.

Tears run down your face as you and Luffy held tightly on Ace, your captain taking his hand away and staring at the blood in horror “ I’m sorry….For not letting you save me.” he breathed out each word coming out strained “ No, don’t speak we can still get you some help-“ “ It’s no use, he burned up my insides. I can feel my life slipping away.” he said and you shook your head “WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ACE? YOU’RE GOING TO DIE? BUT YOU PROMISED!” screamed Luffy “ Listen up Luffy. Just like with Sabo…if I didn’t have an annoying little brother….I wouldn’t have thought to live…..When you see Dandan again tell her hi from me…Now I kinda of miss her. I only have one regret, that I didn’t see you achieve your dream,  but I’m sure you’ll do it.” he said voice dropping to a whisper “ Haha, not gonna lie, the thing I really wanted wasn’t fame or anything. What I wanted was to know if it was ok for me to be born.” he said and you felt him turn his head towards you.

You couldn’t look at him, not like this, so you just buried your face in his neck trying to feel as much from his fleeting warmth as possible “ ( Y/n)….my ( Y/n). The moments we spent together were the happiest of my life, back on Mobby, with Thatch, Marco and Oyaji. I wanted to be like that for a long time…no….until we got super old. Being with you made me feel like every unpleasant memory up until that point was nothing more than a long forgotten nightmare. Guess I have another regret, not sailing the sea with you till the end of our lives. You said you died before, on my next life I’ll search and find you and never let you go.” he said and your grip around him tighten , your tears mixing with his blood ‘ I love you, please, please don’t go. I love you so much.’ you thought but the clenching of your heart stoped you from speaking.

Ace sighed  “ I can’t talk for much longer, so you have to tell everyone else. Oyaji, everyone, ( Y/n) and Luffy. I’m a worthless man, with the blood of a demon flowing through me.” he said and you shook your head “ Thank you for loving me!” he cried. His body was heavy, too heavy so he slipped out of your grip, you stumbled to catch him “ A-ace.” you mumbled seeing the boy’s expression. A smile on his face, his eyes closed like he was sleeping on the deck of Mobby and was having the most wonderful dream, you hugged him tightly unable to contain your grief any longer.

Preparing for this chapter was hard, Ace’s death just like Robin’s backstory always leaves me a teary mess. I know some of you are not happy with me killing him off but sadly his death is an important drive for Luffy.
