Elliot's POV
I might be troubled, but I will do anything and everything in my power that I can to protect my girlfriend, sisters, and Mom. I've done a lot of work on myself, like going to therapy and trying to work out my issues. I still have my phobias, and I'm not sure that I'm ever going to get over those. My Dad and I have talked a lot about my issues and his issues. I've been put on some medicine for my depression, and I have been put on Lexapro for my anxiety.
Unfortunately, I may have developed a new problem. I've mostly been 'cured' of my mental health issues. However, I have this identity disorder of sorts. I've had this forever since I was young, but it's kinda has escalated since I've gotten older. There's been a lot of trauma in our home, especially the domestic violence and yelling, and arguing targeted towards me. My dad's anger problems have subsided a lot; he still has his moments, but he's getting better.
This identity disorder feels like I'm another person, someone I'm not, but someone that I wish I could be. It feels like I'm obsessive and overprotective of the ones that I love. I don't really know how to talk about it to others, and don't really know how to seek help, or if I should seek help. I just love my girlfriend, sisters, and mom so much that I don't want harm to come to them.
"Hey, Elliot. I'm going out for breakfast at the local cafe. Do you want anything?" Esther hums.
"I wouldn't mind a latte and a pastry," I reply.
"What kind of pastry do you want?" She asks.
"A chocolate chip croissant sounds nice," I answer.
"Okay, I'll get one for you. Hopefully, I should be able to be in and out. There's a new video game that came out, and I'm excited to try it." Esther beams.
"I'm sure the game will be good, I've read a lot of good reviews on it," I reply.
"It'll be lovely! I'll be back with your croissant soon." She beams.
Esther walks out the front door. I go back to what I was doing before we got into our conversation, reading the online video games articles and reviews. About ten minutes later, I got a call from Esther. She sounded panicked.
"Elliot, can you come pick me up? There is this creepy guy who's been trying to talk to me, and he's getting really close to my car. I'm scared if he's going to follow me." She whispers.
"What?! I'll be there immediately. No one is going to come after you on my watch!" I exclaim.
I immediately jump up and end the call, hurrying outside. I quickly got to my car and hopped in, driving to the local coffee shop that Esther was at. I saw Esther's car; she had tons of video game stickers on her car, which was hard to miss, actually. There was a man by the driver's side door, trying to talk to Esther, and she was crying and trying to get the man to leave her alone. I parked and marched over.
"What the hell are you doing harassing my sister?!" I ask.
"I'm just trying to talk to a cute girl, dude." The guy responds.
"It's obvious that she doesn't want your attention; she's crying and telling you to go away!" I yell.
"I just want her number." He continues.
"If you don't step away from her car, there are going to be problems!" I respond.
"What are you going to do to protect this little girl, huh?!" The man exclaims.
He stepped towards me, and I got a bit nervous and scared. I wanted to protect myself and Esther, so I pepper-sprayed the guy. He ran off, crying and screaming from the pain. She rolled down her window, and I immediately told her to get back home. We headed back home, and I instantly checked on her, needing to make sure that she was alright, my pastry long forgotten. I cupped her face and tried to wipe her tears away.
