The sound of glass breaking makes Olivia jump. She glances around the kitchen at her husband and brother. Her big brown eyes are wide as it's a little past nine pm. Jordan is the first one to head up the staircase in a rush. He can hear the sound of crying as he inches closer to the door.
He tries the door handle and blows out air. He knocks softly waiting for any sign of life on the other side of the door. Jordan is met with nothing. He could feel a presence behind him and glanced over his shoulder spotting the head full of curls belonging to his twin. With a wave of her hand, she motions for him to move more like go back downstairs with no spoken words.
"I got it." She knows it is a hard pill to swallow.
Another glass can be heard crashing to the floor.
"Olivia." He steps forward to get past her but he is pushed back.
"I told you, I got it."
Olivia can see and even feel the pain of her brother. They all felt it in their own way but she knew he was hurting. She tried to muster up one of her best reassuring smiles waiting until he stepped away from the door. She knocked softly introducing herself. As if she was some stranger meeting the other person for the first time.
Silence.
She knocks again and waits. The door clicks but doesn't open. Olivia still waits before proceeding to enter and closes the door behind her. She knows Jordan well enough to lock the door yet again. The young woman steps over again broken glass examining the room. She swallows the lump in her throat. The trigger that is seeping through the back of her eyelids waiting to fall.
She wants to ask questions, the right questions. Every time she opens her mouth to speak, no words come out. Instead, she opens her arms wide and in an instant, her body jolts from the impact. Her heart breaks from the sobs and the shaking.
Jordan is in the kitchen twirling the half full shot glass of whiskey. His mind knows Spencer is saying words but none of it is clicking to him. It just looks like he was on mute and mouthing everything. There was one person on his mind and he couldn't shake that feeling. He wanted to reverse time and make the pain of everything just go away.
"She is a fighter." Spencer voices.
"I know. I know that and as many times as I try to remain positive for not only myself but for her... it just feels like the walls are caving in."
"She was an athlete on track to becoming pro when her whole world flipped upside down - again." Spencer sighs knowing exactly how that felt.
"It just doesn't feel real. We are only in our twenties. Yeah, we couldn't survived a long distance relationship and now we have the light of our life with our babygirl. The woman I saw a future with made me a husband and a dad. The one person I want to wake up to every day could not be here like that." He snaps his fingers.
When she first started feeling pain, she had swept it under the rug. It was common among athletes to either play with an injury or get said injury looked at. He noticed it right away and didn't want her to just push through the pain. It wasn't something that could just heal. It was heartbreaking , exhausting and he could tell that the radiation and medicine that he took a needle to stick her with was taxing. Everything about this was draining.
