Humans, adaptable creatures,
learn to endure, to survive.
When trapped by violence and coercion,
suffocated cries turn into tears,
and frustration, that slow poison,
burns quietly from within.
The determination to escape, once a bright flame,
now is nothing but an ember dying out.
The days stretch, becoming indistinct,
gestures and thoughts no longer choices,
but mere reactions the body repeats.
The line that once seemed like our limit
disappears, stretching into an endless abyss.
And little by little, the pain no longer hurts,
neither the anger, nor the will to fight,
because the body surrenders,
the soul drifts away,
like someone watching a stranger
crying without knowing why.
The student who dreamed of a bright future,
with success and accomplishments,
fades into the mist of resignation.
And who she once was, she no longer knows.
